Buffeting?

I don't get this very often, but after crashing after a 2hr VA flight, I'm a bit miffed now. Could you please take a look at this video? Decent running smoothly then all of a sudden get massive fluctuations in IAS with a chuffing type of noise. In the past is has stopped about 5 mile out but speed shoots up to 250+ kts. This time got to vref approach speed then I dropped out of the sky. Can’t see what I have done wrong as I follow a checklist. Possible bug or just me? Thanks for looking. Hi Paul, Sounds likes a weather turbulence issue to me - the chuff sound is the wind sound, the wind volume is proportional to the airspeed so the big jumps in IAS also affect the wind volume, and hence the chuffing. Im not a weather expert though - im sure someone will chime in on how to turn prevent your issue shortly! Cheers,

Hi Paul: Thank you for the video. It illustrates clearly the erratic behaviour of the IAS tape in the situations I have encountered, as described in the following thread. I observe this behaviour as well, with the unexpected increases in air speed, however it is usually coupled with a flashimg amber A/T light. You must have had the flaps up, as one of the conditions for the flashing light is to have them "not up", but the IAS tape behaviour is the same. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/349432-flashing-yellow-at-disconnect-light/ Regards,Roberto

Hmmm getting very frustrating had it on the last 2 V/A flights with passengers complaining about excessive G's resulting in a poor score. Is this likely to be fixed?Other than that I have no issues thankfullyRegardsPaul

I've seen this before when using Active Sky with VATSIM or CAVOK weather selected in FSINN. Essentially, it was caused by FSINN weather updating every second (as that is what I had it selected to). I normally run ASE and don't select FSINN (VATSIM) weather or CAVOK, but I had a brain fart, and clicked VATSIM Weather icon, and the fight between ASE and FSINN weather was on. If you're using ASE, start FSINN, disable weather, end the flight so that FSINN stops running, restart, and you'll be good to go. You can still select VATSIM weather via ASE if you choose (I do, otherwise you're aircraft speed won't be consistent with other aircraft on VATSIM using FSINN weather). If you're using ASE, I hope this helps. Be well.

It's always good to test it yourself before accusing anyone of a bugs in the software. Clear the weather and see what happens. If it's what I'm thinking, it's not likely to be fixed, no. The FSX weather engine is terrible at simulating weather, so I'm guessing that's your problem, and that's definitely not likely to be fixed. I'd also turn off crashes. They're highly unrealistic.
