September 26, 201114 yr Hi pilots, when i applied the latest HotFix (4) i ran into CTD's which i didn't have before.I searched this forum and collected a bunch of solutions which FIXED my problems. Here's what I did: STEP 1Go to "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX"Delete both Shaders and Shaders10 folders STEP 2Go to C:\FSX INSTALL LOCATION\SimObjects\AirplanesFind your PMDG aircraft and Backup all of your aircraft.cfg if you want to easily reinstall your liveries. Delete them from the aircraft folders afterwards Step 3 Go to C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSXOpen fsx.cfg and delete all PMDG NGX entries from the "trusted" section Search inside fsx.cfg for "SITUATION" and make it read "SITUATION=" (No "", off course) Save fsx.cfg Make sure your access permissions are set correctly for the FSX installation location especially if you installed in "C:\Programms (x86)(which was not recommended by PMDG and users, but works well for me) OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED !!!!!!!!! (((( BTW I disabled the UAC "User ACCES CONTROL" feature completely, since it is a Games only installation. I don't have a virus Programm running at all, same for BitDefender disabled. Google is your friend ;-) I deleted also all unneccesary SERVICES inside Windows earlier and applied the recommended entries inside fsx.cfg.There are recommendations in the AVSIM forums. Check also this:http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html)))) END OF OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED !!!!!!!!! STEP 4Install/Reinstall your HotFixsTART FSX and accept all warnings about "dlls" etc. Load your aircraft, weather, location etc. and start a test-flight STEP 5If everything was OKAY so far, open your aircraft.cfg you backed up in STEP 2On top you will find entries like [fltsim.0] to [fltsim.x] depending on the amount of liveries you installed prior the HotFix Open the "new" generated aircraft.cfg inside the PMDG FoldersC:\FSX INSTALL LOCATION\SimObjects\Airplanes in a second editorCopy and paste all additioal entries from [fltsim.1] to [fltsim.x]underneath the [fltsim.0] entrySavesTART FSX and accept all warnings about "dlls" etc. Load your aircraft, weather, location etc. and start a test-flight """"""""""" 1st EDIT""""""""""It is not recommended to load from "Saved/Default Flight", caused a CTD !I am verifying this...TRUE, reproducable, looking for solution ...""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" You should hopefully be good to go ENJOY THIS BEAUTIFUL AIRPLANE PLEASE DONT ANSWERS LIKE"It runs for me" or "It doesn't" or "Thanks" like posts I'd like to see only RECOMMENDATIONS or CHANGES to my procedure if possible. Please keep this POST as "uncrowded" as possible. September 27, 201114 yr Being rather hesitant whether I ought to leave things that are working currently be, or opt for HF4, I'm grateful for your instruction-set. Thanks. Rick Almeida
September 28, 201114 yr Author Hi Being rather hesitant whether I ought to leave things that are working currently be, or opt for HF4, I'm grateful for your instruction-set. Thanks. I'd say, never touch a running system. For hotfixes: Don't be the first one to use them ;-) Oliver --
September 28, 201114 yr I haven't applied the HF4 cause my NGX works so I thought let me wait and see what people say and will just put the Sp1 on.... Marc M.
September 28, 201114 yr Unbelievable!!!! Shouldn't it just load and go - after all development time/beta took long enough. Imagine if we had to do this Windows!!! Gerry
September 28, 201114 yr @OP If you start messing around with windows and it's services you are going to run into problems. Chris Farrell
September 28, 201114 yr Unbelievable!!!! Shouldn't it just load and go - after all development time/beta took long enough. In most cases it does just load and go. September 28, 201114 yr Author @OP If you start messing around with windows and it's services you are going to run into problems. I am sure, if you go with this (and I did) you are on the safe side.As I said, I ran into CTDs when running the release version, then I followed the above guide (see link in this post) and everything was fine.Same happened again when applying HF4 and I did the actions stated in my initial post, and everything runs perfect again !!Of course a hotfix should not cause any problems, but it was considered BETA and does NOT fix up a million different Hardware and Software setups around this world. IT DID MINE AT LEASTOliver --
September 28, 201114 yr Oliver, I installed previous hotfixes without any luck at all getting CTD's so everytime I went back to the original installer which always run great on my computer.Followed your tips for the latest hotfix but tried to install liveries without starting FSX first, and lost the 3 Winglets variants in the livery manager.I then reinstalled the hotfix, started FSX as stated on your tips and got a CTD right on the start of my flight.! Just restarted FSX after a reboot and now so fine so good it runs like a charm again. I guess it is important to run FSX once or twice after a hotfix before installing any liveries, it worked for me.
