October 16, 201114 yr Hello,I want to upgrade to an i7 2600K. But therefore I need a new motherboard. Currently I'm thinking about buying the MSI Z68A-GD65, but I see a lot of people with Asus motherboards too. So I was wondering, what would you recommend for FSX, and which motherboards do provide the best overclocking abilities for a Sandy Bridge? I don't want to spend more than about 150 euros. Thanks, Arjen Vandervelde
October 16, 201114 yr IMO a m/b is not strictly related to a game. I also believe each of the brand you mentioned has a wide catalogue to choose from. I have always owned Gigabyte m/b in last 15 years and I have never had a single issue. Overclocking shouldnt be a problem on each of those brands.
October 16, 201114 yr Well, it´s up to what features you need. I´ve got an Asus P8P67 Pro and it´s rock stable. Never had any prolems like double posts or anything else. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
October 16, 201114 yr Can't compare directly regarding FSX. However, for FS purposes I've had quite a collection of brands in the past and in my opinion it's just a matter of the needed features. One of my own criteria has been a sufficient number of available USB slots but this does not seem to be a real issue today anymore. Overclocking wasn't a topic for me up to now as FSX runs quite smooth even with lower frame rates. Regards,Axel
October 16, 201114 yr My board is in my sig and is solid. I have had msi boards in the past and had issues with them but my last few have been asus and never had any problems. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
October 16, 201114 yr I've used both the p8p67-pro and p8z68-deluxe from ASUS. Both are excellent boards Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
October 17, 201114 yr Been running my new build for a few months on the Asus P8P67 Pro rev 3.1 and the i7-2600k. Absolutely no issues, and it took all of 5 minutes to overclock this badboy cpu up to 4.7. It's a great performer with FSX and the NGX. Even if you know nothing about overclocking, the board's UEFI software will nail a solid overclock for you automatically up to about 4.5. Just be sure you have decent cooling and good case ventilation. Hope you pick a winner :) - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. But right now, seeing that 9/10 people have Asus motherboards, I'm gonna get the Asus P8Z68-V Pro for certain. Looks like a good motherboard to me. Arjen Vandervelde
