Jet City DC-9

Featured Replies

Am I understanding this correctly? Unless I misread their website,I have to pay $25 for the Jet City DC-9 and then another $25 for the Iron Knuckles DC-9 in order to get a panel to use for the Jet City DC-9? John Fitzpatrick

Actually, you missed the "no sounds" either. You get to use the default 737 panel and sounds unless you have the Iron Knuckles DC-9. Then, you can "easily" use that instead.

It looks more like something aimed at the DC-9 nuts as an addon to their Iron Knuckles that expands the aircraft set to include all the other DC-9 models so that they are not just stuck with the -30.

Purchasing the Iron Knuckles package is optional. It was set up more as a way of enhancing the Iron Knuckles package for people that already own that package than as a means of forcing people to buy two add-ons. The Jet City DC-9s will work with almost any panel or sound set you choose, freeware or payware, with little to no special modifications needed. When the Iron Knuckles pacakge was released, there was a somewhat vocal group that had a rather low opinion of the panel from that package for various reasons. We chose to not include a panel by default and simply let users choose which panel they prefer, as there will inevitably be a good number of users (and as has been already shown in the case of DC-9 fans, quite a few more) that would not use the included panel or sounds as they already have their prefered setup.A fairly detailed DC-9 panel is available free from http://www.hilmerby.com/ but I don't think it also includes sounds. If you do have the Iron Knuckles package from Flight 1, all you need to do is run a small "merge" utility we have included with the package that will automatically change the configuration files and copy any necessary files. It also works in reverse in case you want to choose a different configuration (there are three).

There was a really good DC9 panel uploaded just the other day, and the SAS one is incredible...rgds,billg

Just my opinion here but $25 for a model with no sounds or panel is a bit steep, considering the open association between flight1's Iron Knuckles and this release.Flight1 and Jet City Aircraft would have been better off to jointly release this at half of what it's selling for as a model add-on. Who knows, I might have even purchased it.I for one will vote with my wallet and keep my money.JohnBoeing 727/737 Mechanic

Hi John,You're right, $25 for one model is too much. That's why the package, when completed, will contain around a dozen different models and flight dyanamics of the DC-9 from the Series 10 through the Series 50. That's an average cost of about $2 per model. We thought about other pricing structures, such as half the price as you suggest, but $10 for the Series 10, $10 for the -20, and so on would have turned into a $50 investment for the entire package. That's certainly no value! While we respect your opinion and your choice not to purchase our aircraft, we just wanted to be certain that you and others understand that there is much more than a single model that is included in the package.

Hi Nick,While I agree that $25 IS a great value for the whole pack, I wonder how many of us really want that many DC-9's in their hangar. I myself would purchase only a few planes and don't care too much which series of the '9' it is...the livery choice is more important to me. Anyway, all I am saying is I would pay $10 without blinking for (IE) the Series 10, but not $25 for the package. While that may be nit-picking the wallet, there are so many excellent add-ons up for grabs, I would go bankrupt if I jumped at everything! Just my thoughts,BTW, those 9's look excellent! Cheers,

On the other hand, I'm sure some will jump at the opportunity to have a specific DC-9 variation. There's a niche for every offer. And what this package seems to offer is completeness. As advertised, the variations' performance should match their real-world counterparts. I'm also very impressed with the professional approach taken to market the product, the web site, and even the Mr B's responses; It's refreshing. I wish Mr Botamer and JetCity Aircraft success in their endeavor. Dave Vega

I looked at the aircraft and indeed in looks fine. Why anyone would pay $25.00 for an aircraft without a panel or sound is beyond me though.Perhaps the price is a missprint?? Craig

>Anyway, all I am saying is I>would pay $10 without blinking for (IE) the Series 10, but not>$25 for the package. While that may be nit-picking the wallet,>there are so many excellent add-ons up for grabs, I would go>bankrupt if I jumped at everything! Actually, that is something we put a lot of consideration and thought into. Originally, it was our intention to price each series individually. However, in the end it ended up being somewhere in the vicinity of $50 for the whole set unless we wanted to deal with coupons and discounts which present their own advantages and setbacks. We came up with $24.95 for the whole set in the end as that would have been the price of two variants and allows the purchaser to easily use one or all of the variants. It is a bit steep of a price if, for example, all you want are Series 20 planes, but we figure most users will use at least two variants and having people pay once for all 5 parts eliminates a lot of hassle. We are still working things out, but we hope to have an agreement with the designers of the Iron Knuckles package that will give new purchasers of either product a discount towards the purchase of the other, however nothing is final yet and so we do not know if there will be a coupon offered or how much the discount would be.As for liveries, well, we have over 40 for the Series 10 already finished that will be available once the package goes online for sales. While some of the other variants are a somewhat limited in the number of airline liveries because of the smaller production numbers, rest assured that we will do our best to paint as many of the major and secondary operators as we can. Afterall, we like flying a rather wide variety of liveries just like everyone else. ;)

>Why anyone would pay $25.00 for an aircraft without a panel or>sound is beyond me though.>>Perhaps the price is a missprint?? No, it's not a misprint. We went around and comparison shopped other add-ons, and considering the range of variants and options included on the DC-9, we feel that $24.95 for the entire DC-9 series is reasonable compared to other "plane only" packages. Included in that price is around a dozen different MDL files and sets of flight dynamics. We feel this compares favorably to packages that sell one model and one flight dynamic set usually in the range of $9.99 to $12.99. On a strictly variant per variant basis, the comparison comes out to around $2.08 for each one of our planes and about 21% and 16% of the cost of one variant at $9.99 or $12.99 respectivly. It also includes over 40 prepainted liveries for the Series 10 alone, and will most likely number well over 100 repaints once the DC-9 Series is complete, all for free.

25$ airplane without panel and sounds? :(Upss sorry , it

25$ does seem very steep, and it's not really a dozen different models, it's one model and the same model, streched. Not for me, but I'm sure their are some Diesel-9 fans who would like the models. Also, you only get a virtual cockpit if you own the Flight1 dc-9?

>Also, you only get a virtual cockpit if you own the Flight1>dc-9?Correct. By default you get dynamic views of the wings instead.
