I must be a little think concerning Snapshots. I never understood their purpose. I was hoping someone could explain the benefits. What is the difference in loading snapshots versus not and letting 2012/ASE run during the flight?I am currently running ASE/REX and do plan to install 2012.

The term snapshot is not used directly with the installation of textures, but really collects current texture files you already have installed in FlgithSim. ActiveSky saves the collected set of textures as a snapshot. You can then have AS12 re-installed these saved snapshot texture sets when ever you feel like. Or, let AS install a particular snapshot based on your current flightplan and active weather. Between AS textues, FEX textures, and REX textures, the possibilities and customization is pretty much endless. I personally use the Wx influanced functionality in AS12 to choose my textures for me and if I really don't care for one, I lower it's weighted value for the type of weather I was flying it.

Thanks for the info. I will download 2012 tonight. Concerning textures, I prefer ASE to choose textures based on my flight plan. Will I be clicking OK for texture load when I process the flight plan?

Yes, when you process a flightplan with AS2012, you now have 3 options.. 1), do nothing, 2) install as2012 integrated wx-influenced graphics or 3) install Snapshot wx-influenced graphics.

Damian,So will I be able to apply a theme and use it all the time, regardless of plan of weather? That's how I use REX and ASE right now. Many Thanks

Which option should I choose to simply receive realistic real world weather for my route? I do not under stand the difference between "2012 integrated wx-influenced graphics" and "install Snapshot wx-influenced graphics".Thank you

You're gonna receive weather into FSX regardless of you texture choice. If you choose wx-influance, AS12 will compare your weather and choose certain native AS2012 textures based on that weeather, and install those textures in FSX. If you chose snapshot, you must have already saved a snapshot set of textures from FSX and configured the settings for that snapshot. Or, you can simply close the pop-up option window with the red X and no textures will be installed. You can also permenently stop the pop-up wx-influance weather option from displaying, by uneching the wx-influance option in the AS options main page.

So snapshots are customized weather themes I had previously set. Things like darker water colors, that sort of customization?

A snapshot just copies the existing textures installed in FSX.If you install a new installation of FSX and take a snapshot, the snapshot will store the default textures that come with FSX.If you replace these default textures either manually or with a program such as REX or AS2012, then the snapshot will capture these instead. When you allow AS2012 to install wx-influenced graphics, the program will install textures that represent the weather you are flying in. For example if you're flying across Europe in winter, the textures will reflect the winter sky, ground etc. If you then decide to fly in the carribean and do not change the textures, everything will look a bit odd..If you want to fly in the caribbean with textures that represent the EU in winter, take a snapshot and apply it before you start FSX.Always keep a backup of your original FSX textures, I've just uninstalled REX and used my initial backup to restore the default FSX textures. When I install AS2012 I will backup the default FSX textures in this program instead.
