FS9 vs. Real World Flight

Featured Replies

I just got home from a trip across the US and was thinking as I was looking out the window that the real world actually does a pretty good job of imitating FS9... It's not perfect of course, as you can't pause it, but other than that it was almost as good as REX/UT/GEpro et al.Just%20Kidding.gifSeriously though, there were several times in the flight when I found myself thinking that what I was seeing out the window wasn't all that radically different to what I see on the screen of my PC. Not low and slow of course, but passing through scattered clouds above 5000' what FS gives us these days is incredibly close to the real thing...

Good observation Andy! I'm flying from KPHL to KMCO on Saturday, and I'm going to look out the window a little differently now than I have in the recent past.Chuck

While I fly with FS9 both sims really will give you immersion either as a passenger or as one of the crewmembers. As a passenger both sims do a very good job at repersenting flight at 32,000 feet and as a pilot with detailed payware and some freeware addons you are kept busy with cruise responsibilities. Cruise is a lot more than the USA today and coffee :( . The sounds are part of the immersion as well there are some payware with incredible sound sets, the QW 757 for example.

There were times when simming was just flat and boring, then I spent sometimes flying with low cost airlines around the country (there are loads of short and cheap flights in my country). I came early for check in and managed myself sitting on a seat which allowed me looking at the wing.Turned on my camera and sometimes posted it on youtube. When I got home, I found my fs9 was as fresh as the first time I bought it. That's my version of FS9 vs Real World Flight. Angel.gif

Not bad, true, but in the real world I miss FSUIPC to suppress all turbulence.

Good point Rafal though I tend to crank it up just to experience the novelty of being tossed around without worrying about the person behind me projectile barfing over my seat back. But in the real world if turbulence makes you spill your coffee it just goes in your lap whereas in FS9 it can fry your keyboard. Tough choices my friend - tough choices LOL.gif

Do you have any links that you would share here? I've seen dozens of these on YouTube, but I'd still be interested in seeing the ones you're specifically referring to here.

I've often done the same Andy. FS9 really comes close. Much closer than the "pastals" of FSX.

All, More than once I've used FS9 to prepare for some real world GA flights - prior to actually flying them... FS9 matches up pretty close - especially if you are using a good mesh like FSGenesis and UT... Two weeks ago - I landed at Ingall's Field (highest public field east of the Mississippi) for real - a flight which I had flown several times in FS9 prior to making the trip... It really did feel like I had been there before and the familiarity can prove very beneficial... So it works for GA too...:)Regards,Scott
