December 21, 201114 yr Regarding Intel's pricing. Historically (within the past 6 years) Intel's pricing seems to be pretty independent of outside influences. Here's to hoping they stay nice and level.Ah yes, but, ah, with the removal of competition and hence any compelling motive for improvement and increased efficiency, human nature ultimately overcomes and overrules the benefits of both. Corporate culture always mutates when external forces no longer dictate internal pressures.Kind regards,
December 22, 201114 yr Gents, I am reading this thread with interest as I'm starting to consider a new build in the latter part of next year, finances permitting. A little off topic but seeing there is a lot of expereince here I would be grateful for some advice. I am new to overclocking but have managed to get 4.2GHz with no apparent stability issues and maximum core temps below 75C when running FSX. MemTest will pass no problems but the Prime95 torture test will blue screen in 10-20 seconds after windows starts. I've tried winding up the Vcore but that only seems to increase the core temps without any improvement with Prime95. Does this really matter? My system is stable and very happy with frame rates so should I be concerned?

December 22, 201114 yr Hi Tom,I used to have a i7 930 @ 4.3 before my current rig. What is your Vcore now?Kind regards,Stephen, wow that's a fast reply! I'm at work right now but when I get home I'll get all the numbers together for you.Cheers,

To be honest there's a lot here I'm not too sure about. December 22, 201114 yr Here about PCI-e 3.0..http://vr-zone.com/articles/does-pcie-3.0-matter-for-today-s-gpus-we-test-with-the-radeon-hd-7970/14306.html
December 23, 201114 yr Hi Tom, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I suspect your Vcore is too low. If I remember right (It has been almost a year) I ran a bit over 1.4v in order to maintain 4.3Ghz. Also is 1.5v enough for your ram? I had the same ram I have now and ran 1.65v. Should load line calibration be disabled? I don't remember mine being so. BTW, we should start a separate thread since we are intruding on Corey's thread. What is your heat solution as that seems a tad warm? Kind regards,
December 23, 201114 yr Here about PCI-e 3.0..http://vr-zone.com/a...7970/14306.html That article doesn't apply to FSX: Unlike modern games, FSX over-uses the PCIe bus because it relies heavily on the CPU for graphics, as explained in Phil Taylor's Back-of-the-Envelope post.Cheers,- jahman.

December 23, 201114 yr Yes, absolutely! For PCIe 3 you need a PCIe 3 CPU (IB), MB and GPU. Can you expand on: now we just need some true DDR4 RAMS....Cheers,- jahman.
