December 22, 201114 yr I'm not saying it not possible to see it from inside the VC Donald, what I meant was that its much easier to see from an external view, it wouldn't bother me so much either if it was an external view bug only, but its not. By the way I prefer God Ray, your name for it sounds like something I should go to the doctors to get medication for. Cheers, Andy.
December 22, 201114 yr It IS a problem. As it has nothing to do with the "jump out of the plane" alone. Its just that the chase view makes it much easier to see the problem (but you would see it from looking out the window and banking etc.). I can see this happen too (since quite some time). I am on Linux and see it with latest 290.10 driver.Have created a bug at Laminar (I work with the internal Bug tracking system) and put in a link to this thread as additional reference. December 22, 201114 yr If I was flying with clouds, and the wind was blowing, I would expect the clouds to move. The changes in light from darker to brighter is what happens if the cloud gets between you and the sun. If that didn't happen I would expect a lot of people to be griping about how unrealistic the sim is. Not seeing different light intensities. LOL :-) Doesn't that seem reasonable? The moving cloud shadows we're talking about are ones that move in response to a change of perspective. For example, if you see a cloud shadow in the distance and tilt your view down, the cloud shadow will move to stay in view rather staying "fixed" on the terrain where it should be.Also the changes in lighting are abrupt and happen, again, simply by moving the camera. Look at the screenshots below. The only thing I did was move the camera slightly down:No idea what's up with the birds stuck to the runway, either. They flap their wings and slowly drift along the ground before suddenly taking off into the air. It's pretty funny.
December 22, 201114 yr Donald,I don't think everyone sees this phenomena, it's not normal cloud shadow displacement. The shadows follow head movement. The light intensity problem isn't due to cloud shadows, it happens when your away from a cloud also. It's as though someone was dimming the lights.
December 22, 201114 yr Yes its true that the sky doesn't have to have any cloud in it for the instant dimming issue to occur as can be seen in this quick video I made. I'll try and make time to make another video showing the other phenomenon later today. Cheers, Andy.
December 22, 201114 yr Andy,Yep, that's it. I'm glad there are more than a couple of us with this problem. As Andras as stated, it's in the bug tracking system, so should be addressed shortly.
December 22, 201114 yr Wait, I was talking about the moving cloud shadow issue, like stated in the initial post of the thread (thats what is in my bug)! Not the dimming - like in the video - with clear sky (which was brought in later in the discussion)!Hmm, but if I look at this video ... hmmm , maybe it has a similar reason with the rotating camera (but in your case, the shadow doesn't comes from the clouds but maybe the airframe itself? Just speculating.) Andras Fabian / Alpilotx Visit www.alpilotx.net, a site about X-plane scenery You can see some landscape and other photographs from me here: http://www.flickr.co...s/weathermaker/
December 22, 201114 yr Yes, I hope so too :-) But please be a little bit patient, because not even the "insider track" will make the solution come quicker (there are already quite some other bugs in the list ... and there is - of course - some prioritizing). December 22, 201114 yr Author Andy-Thank you for your clarifications and the video. The video above is EXACTLY what I am referring to in my original post. I don't seem to have any obvious problems with the color flashes as some do. Perhaps those two things are tied together. I find it a big issue and I'm holding off on my X-Plane 10 purchase until I see this resolved. It's that distracting for me. I almost wish there was a way to turn off cloud shadows entirely. I've almost gotten so used to the "Microsoft" look. But the environment is what makes this a better platform, in my opinion. Thanks,Scott Scott
December 22, 201114 yr From a programming point of view, I wonder if they're using Sin/Cos/Tan functions and feeding them degrees instead of radians. I have seen similar behaviour as rotations change and the angle is not appropriately scaled to radians or degrees as necessary by the sin/cos/tan function. Aaron
December 22, 201114 yr I have the same issue with moving cloud shadows. AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11. Eric Escobar
December 22, 201114 yr Author I'm glad to know I'm obviously not the only one with this issue. Thanks for all the replies and thanks to those who filed a bug report. I submitted one as well. Hopefully this one is ironed out. I just checked the notes on the incoming update and it doesn't look like this issue is on the list. I sure hope the development team is aware of our situation and doesn't think this is an isolated issue. Scott
