December 24, 201114 yr Hello all,1st let me all wish you all the best for these days and the whole next year. Now on topic.I wonder what a pilot and his co would do when in the air on route.I know check fuel useage is a thing, and when over the ocean reporting positions and expacted next reports but is there any kind of in flight check list?Or maybe we can make that together? :)Greeting from NL.Maikel Rozemeijer.
December 24, 201114 yr well, you're mostly right, it's probably pretty boring in a lot of ways. once in cruise, the pilots are also preparing arrival procedures, working with atc, looking out for weather and maybe avoiding it, and maybe reading a book or working on their laptops:) I'm no expert, but as far as I know, there is not "in flight checklist" because at cruise level, it is no longer a "sterile cockpit" so they don't have to follow any specific procedures. Like I said, I'm not a real pilot or anything so please someone correct me if I'm wrong. Merry Christmas!
December 24, 201114 yr Author Reading a book... that's way they keep the cockpit door shut theise days? ;-) Thanks for your thoughts.
December 24, 201114 yr Reading a cracking magazine whilst the other monitors, we also both do traffic watch if needed and weather watch :) Overall it's a lovely view to sit and read and I hear some pilots even stick the ole ipod in as well :) Craig Harris 'NG Driver' for an airline whom shall not be named...
December 24, 201114 yr Or just goto sleep ;)Remember the Northwest flight I think it was, that overflew the arival airport at cruise alt while atc and the cabin crew were trying to reach em on freq and banging on the flight deck door? I think their excuse was that they were on their laptops discussing the schedule. Then later durring the NTSB investigation I think they admitted they were sleeping. Just a few days ago, the FAA placed more restrictions on flight crew schedules for hours on the job and turnaround time between the end of the work day and the start of the next workday while on layover. I can only assume this incident had something to do with it.JB Buzz313th

V2, positive rate, gear up, LNAV, VNAV, coffee!!!:-) :-)Season's greetings to all, don't forget to check the TCAS tonight so that you don't run into Santa and Rudolph, and have a very good 2012!!Roberto Roberto Stopnicki Toronto, Canada
