January 3, 201214 yr Author In that case, it would seem cost is more important than performance for you. That's fine! But it's a moot point in this particular thread.I asked about amd because they gave the best bang for the buck back back when i bought my phenom 955. Can the same be said with the bulldozer chips? January 3, 201214 yr Stephen what CPU am I running? What is my FPS locked at in FSX?What video card am I using? With a maximum visibility of 59 in AS 2012 do you REALLY think it makes a difference that you can run clouds out to 110 miles? Guess what? It doesn't.I do run UT2 at 100% so that's a wash.I am sure that 50% road traffic looks great at 30K.I think FSX auto-gen looks like CRAP, but if I run it, it's no big deal because i still get THE SAME FPS.Now, If a FSX user wants to save $$$, fly more than tweak, not have to add a cooler made for a Mack truck, not have to add 6 cooling fans to their case, then they can ask me about my $149 CPU.Jim,We don't even need to know what CPU is that. There's no misterious AMD CPU with a good enough IPC that overclocked to 3.7GHz will outperform an I3 540, or an I3 2100, let alone an I5 2500K in FSX.It simply doesn't exist.I'll say it again. FSX can run decently on a Phenom II 955 @ 4GHz, but for someone who is in the market for a new FSX system, there's a much better Intel option regardless what your budget isI asked about amd because they gave the best bang for the buck back back when i bought my phenom 955. Can the same be said with the bulldozer chips? Not for FSXBulldozer is no better than Phenom II for FSX, so considering a 955 costs $125 and a FX8120 costs $200, obviously the 955 is still better value.A 2500K will be twice as fast as any of those, but again, a $100 I3 540 will also run FSX better than the Phenom II & Bulldozer FX8120 Edited January 3, 201214 yr by dazz
January 3, 201214 yr +1 on the above comments, wow some very aggressive user posts going on here over just a game an what CPU more like pride filled testosterone arguments, I can tell you first hand though thru pure experince as I owned a FX-8120 running at 4.6Ghz with the same Video card as my current system i7 2600K @4.6Ghz and there is no comparison whatsoever the intel CPU is far superior for FSX with my addons FTX, FTX airports and REX with 3rd party Aircraft. I really wanted the AMD FX and was waiting for a while with all the delays etc I was excited till I ran FSX and at that stage I also had the first gen i7 860 @4Ghz and let me tell you it still was quicker than the FX @4.6Ghz as for the 2600K thats another story best upgrade for FSX I ever made no doubt and as to why most hardened FSX users fly with either 2500K/2600K seems unanimous to me dont you think. January 3, 201214 yr My eyes went crossed half way through. Is this permanent?Zach,Could be unless you take remedial action immediately. Suggest you rinse out our eyes with water, then put in eyedrops, and keep you eyes closed for 48 hours. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use scotch tape to close eyelids, but use bandages to cover eyes lids and then secure them with a bandana or strip of cloth and tie at the back of your head. Once the 48 hours are over, remove bandages and test. If still crosseyed, then I will refer you to a crosseyed specialist, but please be advised that he may find it difficult to focus on your problem. Hope that helps.Kind regards,

January 6, 201214 yr FSXMark11 is not a synthetic benchmark, it is pure FSX fixed at specific settings.Score units are in f.p.s. It tells you how fast a given computer system will display FSX frames. If and when AMD cpus can display frames as fast as Sandy Bridge at comparable price ranges, then and there AMD wll be a good buy. When AMD can do that, please post the good news, it will help folks trying to make buying choices. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
