January 2, 201214 yr No, I don't hate AMD. I used to have an AM3 system not too long agoBulldozer has a terrible IPC so it sucks for FSX. It's decent if you can use all 8 cores thoughSame display settings is not enough, you need to compare using the same install.Look, I don't care if you think I'm an Intel ###### or something, you may want to search the forums and find other's experiences with AMD + FSXOkay. I understand what you are saying. I personally frin myself a SUPER Intel ######. I love Intel and I love AMD. Because without AMD Intel would have nothing to compete with and they would rip out our wallets.I just don't like it when people don't give other products a chance.

If someone wants an FSX system, they should avoid AMD at all cost. Period. For multithreaded applications it's good value. Not for FSX
January 2, 201214 yr My AMD Athlon 5600 x2 runs fsx fine?(a little rash to say aviod at all costs, dazz)Hey, just saying what i see with my own eye balls everytime i fire FSX up.My last flight was over Switzerland pro scenery ( magic) with the turbine duke, into payware Sion.Silky smooth,30 fps - locked internal 8P Edited January 2, 201214 yr by Spook Regards Luke M
January 2, 201214 yr Alain, no need to pick on details, you know what I ment. Going 4 core to 8 core is useless.Well, I'm not "gonna" get in a argument with you BUT what I can see with my chip is NO blurries at all at high speed low altitude, FPS wise I'm with you but not on blurriesto me more core to load stuff = less blurries...I'll post a vid. soon to illustrate what I mean.
January 2, 201214 yr Going 4 core to 8 core is useless.Like a few here, I have the Intel "Skulltrail" (since April '08 in my case). Basically it was unlocked Intel Xeons (Harpertown) on a server board (Intel Seaburg) w/ a bios that allows tweaking of the FSB and cpu multiplier & RAM timings. 2 sockets... 4 physical threads on each socket. For the above statement by Word Not Allowed re: FSX this is for all intents and purposes "true". In fact, I now use an AffinityMask setting that limits FSX to 4 threads. You have an application like AutoCAD or such specifically written to take advantage of SMP, then no question the benefits are there... again not the case for FSX.

January 2, 201214 yr I have built a lot of AMD based systems in the past, and there was a time they were really spanking Intel, and were for the most part the gamers choice of chips. When Intel came out with the Core 2 Duo, they pretty much retook the crown, and then the I7 chips and X58 chipset motherboards, and now SandyBridge, really raised the bar. These chips overclock and perform extemely well.I am sure the newer offerings from AMD are still pretty good, but it would take a lot to swing me back over for the Intel chips at this time. But I am grateful they are around, as a consumer of them for a few years, and now that there is at least another player to help keep Intel in line with pricing, and development of newer technologies. January 2, 201214 yr Ben,It's OK, my AMD from 1.5 years ago eats FSX for lunch and dinner and I saved a slew of $$$$ at the time. I don't tweak, adjust, modify, add nitrogen cooling; just start FSX and fly.

Of course you will get better texture loading, BUT, you will not get better performance, actually what OP was/is implying. Also he was thinking of giving a sum about 200€ for a new chip, as I gather, rather more than €1000 chip or a complete system upgrade (RAM+CPU+MOBO = €700 if you take 2700K into consideration).I know all about more threads story... and I bet my quad core can keep up with the same scenery/textures at high speed as your 980x does.
