January 6, 201214 yr Now that the game is over we can go further in our smart capability of seeing in the Flight future.I am deeply convinced that no one will buy addons so Flight is gonna die within weeks but this is pretty obvious and everyone here agrees or at least the vast majority. Now let's analyze MS Flight developers minds, ok it would take 2 seconds but that is what happened and what is going to happen :They took 2 years to release a funny island and 2-3 funny planes + a funny interface regarding the missions achievements.Hmmmm...something is wrong here, even the dumbest guy in the world would have done better and faster so here is my new theory :They already have the DLC ready, it has been Prepar3D ( Ooops sorry ) a while ago and MS is again kidding us telling it will be built according to users preferences shown in the early life of Flight, FALSE !!!Everything is ready so please do not fall into the same mistake twice guys, MS Flight budget is ended and all what you read in these and future days is FALSE again because all the DLC is already ready.Of course I am speaking about the rest of Hawaii, a small portion of Iceland with gaysers ( these are not related to gays BTW ) and a hot red Grand Canyon small scenario.Nothing more, so please do not believe to what MS is saying, the DLC content is already done and the budget is closed. If someone do not agree I am available for.....chatting in peace.- Edited January 6, 201214 yr by Guest
January 6, 201214 yr I don't know about the DLC development budget being closed, I'm sure that depends on how well the DLC will sell. You are spot on about some the DLC already being developed though.I think it has already be confirmed that the other parts of Hawaii will be available as DLC upon or shortly after release. Furthermore we also know that there are some planes waiting to go. How do we know that, simple:In the various previews we have seen the following planes: Icon A5, Stearman, P-51, Maule M-7 and a plane I'm not familiar with, the Vans RV-7 I think.Of those planes, the Icon A5 comes with the base pack, and the Stearman is used to bribe you onto Windows Live. The others have not been mentioned so far, so it seems reasonable to assume that they will be offered as DLC. John-Alan Pascoe
January 6, 201214 yr They took 2 years to release a funny island and 2-3 funny planes + a funny interface regarding the missions achievements. No, quite the contrary: MS have built the NextGen version of FSX.Don't get confused just because MS chose to realease a limited amount of scenery and aircraft and chose to not release an SDK. All of these decisions are very esily reversible so if Flight flops with the arcade target market (as it will) "MS Management" will fall back on the the real simmer with a real interest in aviation, and put all the stuff they took out of FSX right back in, as well as release the SDK, etc., etc. They can do all of this easily if they wi$h.Cheers,- jahman.
January 6, 201214 yr and put all the stuff they took out of FSX right back in,And wind up with what? FSX - the aging sim we already have. Makes no sense at all.
January 6, 201214 yr The SDK is the key. Without SDK and 3rd party development, it will be for gamers only. FS2024 • PMDG 738, 77F • FSL A321 • A2A Comanche, Aerostar • BS Baron, Bonanza, Caravan Pro • JF Tomahawk • TAOG H500C BeyondATC • GSX Pro • ChasePlane & Flow Pro • TDS GTNXi • FSUIPC • AutoFPS • RealTurb 9800X3D B650E • ROG OC RTX 5090 • 64GB DDR5-6000 • VKB Gladiator, STECS, T-Rudder • Tobii 5 • ISP 1 Gbps
January 6, 201214 yr The SDK is the key. Without SDK and 3rd party development, it will be for gamers only.Yes.The weird aspect is that MS prefers to close the project instead of doing that even if it could earn a lot of money. This just to go against us, incredible and stupid indeed but true.
January 6, 201214 yr And wind up with what? FSX - the aging sim we already have. Makes no sense at all.You forget about improved use of multi-CPU, multi-GPU hardware, better scenery engine. Flight is to flightsim what an operating system is to a PC.Cheers,- jahman.
January 6, 201214 yr I don't know jahmanIt's apparent MS and a few partners can't do it with alone and they know it. If the DLC proves succesfull that will just convince them more that they made the right choice with their new arcade model, and complex addons, the simulation oriented type, will keep sidelined.I've said this before, so sorry for repeating myself, but I think it's obvious that at some point the decision was made that Flight would not be a complex simulation and they didn't waste resources adding the features in the engine that would allow to add simulation elementsI have no idea really, just my uneducated, out of disappointment opinion
January 6, 201214 yr Clearly, Flight is a stripped-down FSX, with a few visual improvements and a lot of brand new code that deals with the new game features. Now, remember that FSX is a 32-bit program, which was already experiencing OOM errors with 512MB cards and medium resolution textures. FSX just has no VM room to add any new features of significance that would improve simulation. This is one of the issues I have with P3D. If they add stuff, they are just shrinking the VM into which we can load 3PD products. We really need a new platform that's 64-bit and is modern, even if it does not have all the features that we have had in FSX - at first. If we don't get such a platform in the next few years, the current ones will not be able to keep up with hardware technology and that will be the end of this hobby as we know it.
January 6, 201214 yr Commercial Member The decision not to release a SDK is a business one. MS wants the secondary market. They will approach some developers to build content for them and will give them some sales %, but the copyright and everything else will belong to MS.This is in line with the "No User Generated Content" statement.

I mean releasing the SDK to developpers takes just one memo from Darth Va... I mean the Flight Program Manager.Lots of things regarding the Flight business plan can change. Also as some other folks are pointing out, FSX was pretty useless when it first came out (for those with advanced FS9 installations at least) and it took a year or more for fun scenery and complex aircraft to start becoming available. Likely the same will hold true for Flight. For all we know, there could be an arcade flag hidden somewhere in the configuration that will allow us to turn-off all arcade-like features (EnableArcadeFeatures=HELLNO).So me, in the next few days I'm going to stop monitoring the Flop, I mean Flight, forum and then I'll come back for a looksee if and when MS announces features catering to the "legacy support" they said in their PR release a year ago they would support.Cheers,- jahman. January 6, 201214 yr lol you are pretty naive if you think nobody will buy the addons, you wont buy them and many others here wont buy them, will that make Flight a fail, absolutely not.I don't see casual gamers forking over any real-world coins for the very limited gameplay either. Look at how Valve has been able to stretch out Team Fortress with the micro-transaction model - they took a fully featured game, converted it to free-to-play, and worked with the community to build up content. This, on the other hand, is a farce that's going to look like a very embarrasing hole in a number of people's resumes...
