January 10, 201214 yr Take a look at this. I've been living with this since I know FS. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Can this somehow be prevented and what's causing it?
January 10, 201214 yr Have you tried the soft horizons download in the avsim file library? Filename is soft_fsx.zip by John Cillis.Best wishesSteve Stephen Munn
January 10, 201214 yr This is a quote from the Soft Horizons installation for FS9 so perhaps it's also the same in FSX. FS9 has a .cfg file, called suneffect.cfg. If the line RenderGlow="1" is changed to RenderGlow="0", the glow of the rendered sun won't be so pronounced and will minimize the effect. vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 10, 201214 yr Mmmm, interesting. Gotta test this one out. But what's the downside I wonder... now inflight, so gonna try it out a bit later.

But what's the downside I wonder... now inflight, so gonna try it out a bit later. The downside is that you are stuck with the colors of soft horizon (dawn, day, dusk). Soft horizon simply is one set of sky textures that is cleverly painted so the horizon is softened. If you don't happen to like the colors, you are out of luck. I used the FSX version in the past, but I forgot why I stopped using it, really... Could be the colors. I do remember it made things better but I don't know anymore about dusk and dawn...Hopefully this will get fixed in one of the upcoming sims, because that harsh horizon spoiled a lot of fun... Luckily I don't see it too often since I mainly fly low and slow GA nowadays. Edited January 10, 201214 yr by J van E
January 10, 201214 yr in FS9 suneffect.cfg is "not" part of the Soft horizons package!vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 10, 201214 yr Reducing the visability can help with this problem.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
January 10, 201214 yr If it isn't in FSX you can download from herehttp://www.fsdownload.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=729vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 14, 201214 yr Actually, for me and a few others when the visibility gets to between 3-10 miles it is much worse. The "horizon" is drawn in a sharp and blocky as you pan line around the panning field at the visibility distance. You can see the clouds and mountains past this line out to many many miles. There is a sharp color difference between the skly, clouds and mountains or land. Verry ugly. I will throw a party to the first person to figure out how to fix this. Marc Lynn

January 14, 201214 yr The poster's initial enquiry was about the horizon line behind the sun which can only be cured by suneffect.cfgThe rest has to be cured either by reduced visibility or "soft horizons"vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 14, 201214 yr Err, no... I was asking about the line in front of the sun, as it appears on the pic.
January 14, 201214 yr Err, no... I was asking about the line in front of the sun, as it appears on the pic.Yes, well suneffect.cfg is your answer!vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
January 14, 201214 yr No, this is perhaps a different issue all together. It matters not where the sun is and is ONLY apparent when the visibility is UNDER 10 miles. This is the whole point that you should not really be able to see the sun when the visibility is worse than that. I know what effect you are talking about and this is different. This is a fog rendering issue. I am desperate so maybe I will try this suneffect.cfg but I highly doubt it will adress the issue. One other thing. Notice in the OP's screenshot what is causing this hard line is that "whitish" texture that symbolises reduced visibility on ground textures only. The sky redering of reduced visibility is done in a simmilar but different way. So as the visibility gets reduced this white line at the end of the reduced visibility distance comes closer to the aircraft and the cutoff line becomes much more visible. So reducing the visibility does not solve the problem, it makes it worse. During reduced visibility the sim can look like flight simulator in 1985, no color blending and very unrealistic. Marc Lynn
January 14, 201214 yr The ONLY two ways to get rid of the hard line below the sun is to:-1. Reduce visability so that the sun is no longer visibleor2. Adjust suneffect.cfg as I described earlier.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
