January 22, 201214 yr hello all, i was an avid flightsimmer back in highschool and college and have been completely out of the loop in regards to flightsim/computers for the past 3 years. well sure enough a few days ago the FS bug bit me and i have been scrounging around looking for my FSX cd and all my other goodies to get me back up and flying. i built myself a system with the i7 940 chipset right after it came out. now that it is somewhat outdated i was looking at oc'ing to be able to run FSX and all the addons ( cannot wait to take the PMDG 737ngx for a spin ) more smoothly. and that is what i need help with. would anyone be kind enough to give me a for dummies explanation on how to OC my system? what kind of clock speed could i expect to achieve and be stable? specs are below, only thing i dont remember is what heatsink and fan i bought, i know that it was a very good one in regards for OC'ing ststems, and it just came out for the P6T mobo when i bought it. any help would be appreciated, thanksspecs:i70 940 2.93Asus P6t deluxe mobopc power and cooling 750W psuGTX260 GPUOCZ 3 X 2GB DDR3 1600 RAMWD velociraptor 300 gb HD!!!EDIT!!!! after sifting through emails i found the heatsink. thermalright 120 extremeadam Edited January 22, 201214 yr by uhntissbaby111
January 22, 201214 yr If you have the money, wait for Ivy Bridge. For now, you can bump up your bus speed to a resonable amount. On your core voltage I wouldn't reccomend exceeding 1.37 volts.
January 24, 201214 yr Author thanks for the reply. i def plan on upgrading the PC (waiting for Ivy bridge as you said). however, i just enlisted in the Navy and am currently trying to cut spending until i ship out. so i was just wondering what i should shoot for OC wise on the current rig to enjoy flight sim, ( being able to run the PMDG 737 with some addon scenery), and any tips on OC'ing as well. once i get settled in to the navy and get my duty station and stuff then ill def splurge a little on a new rig, gotta treat myself to completing bootcamp hahaadam

On my board it willl overclock for me up to 20% that will get you a little over 3 Ghz speed. Pretty safe way to go, start out with 5% OC and if everything goes good up it a little at a time. If your chip stays cool enough you can do it, i it gets too hot it will probably shutdown. Just read the instructions tht came with your board. Donald E.
