FSX DOESNT RUN SMOOTHLY WITH 6950 AND i7 !H E L P

As the title says....the last 20 days im trying to find out why does FSX not run smoothly.I get 15-35 FPS and when flying with payware such as the 737 ngx in low altitudes the game is completely unplayable. The strangest thing is that my rig is pretty strong .I tried to edit fsx.cfg with bojote's tweaking tool. Then i got +5 fps or so....I also bought from simmarket FSX Booster but it dindnt help either...Graphics are not maxed out but the sliders are pretty high.Im using rex 2.0 +overdrive and i usually fly over ORBX scenery. Please let me know if you need extra informationHere are my system specs:AMD Radeon 6950 (ASUS) Direct CU II 2GBIntel Core i7 CPU 860 @2.98 GhzWindows 7 ultimate 64 bit4 gigs of RAMCoolermaster GX 750 W PSUGigabyte H55M-UD2H MoboH60 Hydro SeriesThermaltake overseer II (CASE)

AGI don't think that you will see really constant smooth performance until you can get a cpu running at 3.8GHz or more, my i7 860 gives good performance in GA flying at 3.3 GHz standard cooling, its not until I use my i7 2600K at 4.8GHz do I see a really significant improvement, and even that can slow down with complex add-ons.Your RAM may be a little light running complex planes and weather programs I would suggest a trial with 2 x 4 GB matched 1333/1600 dual channel DDR3 RAM as a start. (4x 2 GB matched RAM second choice but you may lose some cpu cycles).Hyperthreading turned off in the BIOS?Power management at maximum including USB hubs etc?HDD defragged regularly?HDD not more than 60% fill?Effective gpu/cpu cooling?Fsx tweaks - don't work on every rig.No programs running in the background?Vsync on or off if on Triple Buffering on as well?Using an external fps limiter?Have a think about overclocking especially if you have a good cooler.RegardsPeterH

How can 15fps be "completely unplayable"...? Unless you get stutters that's still gonna be reasonably smooth, I get that with my i5 and GTX 560 at Heathrow and I cope... hell, I got 9fps with the QW 757 there and was still fine! Matter of preference I guess.edit: Or are you saying that when you fly the NGX at low altitude you get lower framerates? In that case, just listen to Peter...!

You answered your own question! Lower the sliders. The 860 isn't all that powerful, but it can more than cope if you don't expect miracles with it. A healthy overclock will bring the lowest FPS up and make a marked difference. Other wise, you're just going to have to loose some autogen, scenery detail, and AI traffic.

Thanks for replying,!I oveclocked my cpu to 3.36 gHZ...Now i see a MASSIVE climb in my fps!I get 58+ fps when flying above fsx default scenery (test was made with the ngx) and 43+ fps when flying above orbx scenery. You guys were correct.Overclocking solved my problem but now the cpu is getting really hot!My cpu cooling is effective enough ( Corsair H60 Hydro Series) but when loaded cpu reaches temperatures close to 65 degrees celsius...Is this normal for an overclocked i7?Please let me know if there is any other cpu in market that can run fsx without beeing so stressed.Anyways let me answer to peterhayes questions--->HT is ON//Yes power management is at maximum//I dont really know how to defrag a HDD//No.Its almost empty//Corsair's H60 Hydro Series (i think its good enough)//Only a few programs running when playing FSX//Vsync off Triple Buffering On//No

65c is absolutely fine, I think the I7 is rated up to 100c but most people would be prepared to accept 80c.Bryan.

For your system:1. Overcock (as much as you can without causing overheating)2. Turn off hyperthreading3. Affinitymask=144. Usepools=0That should increase your performance nicely and eliminate stutters. Also, check what your system is running in the background (particularly viruus scanners)IAN

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

For me, 75c is acceptable for any aircooling solution on the long run (but you *have* to test with testing tools, not FSX - i.e. Prime95, Linx...).So I guess if you overclocked, and tested 65c, you'll be getting 75-80c with Prime95. So you should either get better cooling or overclock correctly - I don't know what your Vcore and Clocks are set at.Also it's possible that you have a "bad batch" CPU, meaning it won't overclock much without producing very lot of heat. But, cianpars said it quite well. Overclock, HT off, AM 14 and BP=0. That should give you a nice performance.Don't expect wonders though: you are trying to run one of the hardest addons on older generation CPU... SB is very well known to have made a huge jump in performance boost.

I wasn't able to get anything 'good' out of FSX before Sandybridge and 4.7ghz. It's amazing how much of a CPU hog this thing is.

OK,heres a screenshot with my current fsx.cfg configuration (using payware Fsx Booster).Except from disabling HT is there anything else i need to change in there? Please have a look
