March 4, 200422 yr no more completely flat airports/runways - airports should follow the terrain.greater ground resolution (1-2 m)3D ground tiles - not 2D + cartoon Autogenactivecamera functionality built in.New flight modelspherical globe"life" in scenery - at least sounds
March 5, 200422 yr Well I actually hope they are flat....Would hate to hit that bump in the middle of the runway LOL....But I think you mean not fully horizontal but may rather follow small elevation changes (or large as may be the case with some mountainside runways hehehe)
March 5, 200422 yr Chris,I wasn't talking about other games. Check this out: http://www.markmark.net/You can certainly do more with better framerates. On the other hand, to be fair to MS, it does take resources to implement all of that...Christian
March 5, 200422 yr I'm glad to see someone finally has mentioned flight modeling. There's room for improvement there. If they did nothing else and brought the FM up to X Plane standards it would be a revolutionary step forward.TonyDigital-Flight
March 6, 200422 yr >Not to burst anyones bubble but we'll be lucky to see a>FS2006.What a load of absolute unadulterated drivel. If MS sell 1 million copies of FS at $60 a pop that is $60m - development, marketing and distribution costs do not gobble up most of that. You have had your head in a dark place for too long. Extract it and have a look around.Andy b Andy Brockbank
March 6, 200422 yr they should just remove ALL configuration options, remove the open architecture so people can't mess around with performance killing addons, encrypt the config files so they can't be edited. That way there won't be any more complaints from kids attempting to lay blame for their own tinkering with Microsoft.Putting it all on XBox is a good idea as well, that way Microsoft can not only fully control the software but the hardware also.Of course doing all that will kill the addon community but that's a small price to pay for having only content customers isn't it?
March 6, 200422 yr Sorry if this has already been mentioned further back in the thread but does anybody else think that FS 2006 may be released as DVD only?

If they did>nothing else and brought the FM up to X Plane standards it>would be a revolutionary step forward.>I run X-Plane too..........And still wonder what all the wonderful standards are. It's still a myth as far as I'm concerned; probably due to high frame rates. As to "defaults" I find good & bad with each sim. and with the payware available for MSFS, I don't find anything in X-Plane beating it.L.Adamson

You should try to be a little more constructive man.And no, I disagree. I know I would be pretty discontent with not being able to add anything on. Or be able to tweak to fix problems and/or increase performance, such as with the xml autogen issue. I have many many addon's and I don't have any problems and my performance is still excellent. If what you suggest happened I would move on to another sim, such as Falcon 4(which is excellent and I used to play it a lot), LOMAC, X-Plane, or IL-2 FB. Of course, I could be in the minority. I've played all those sims I named off a little before and they're pretty good. And of course, moving to XBox would force the issue of moving on for me. It's MSFS's openess and the fact that it can be easily added onto that keeps me coming back to it.Jim
March 9, 200422 yr I would have to say quite a few of us wingnuts play for the fun of tweaking, posting, reading, trying, tweaking, posting, complaining, etc. I remember building my first cockpit as a 10 year old with an old sawhorse and some plywood. I found a compass and drew all kinds of gauges, adding a yoke here, and a few pull knobs there, etc. As I reflect back, it was the development phase of this whole exercise that had my attention. Once this part was over, the idea of sitting there pretending to fly was only good for a fraction of the time it takes to do the development part. Of course if you have a boy that does that nowadays you are supposed to have him put on Ritalin and get rid of that nasty inquisitive and industrious nature!XNAY on XBOX!Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. March 9, 200422 yr I don't think I would consider an Xbox for a Flightsimulator. I would think that you would loose the ability add 3rd party planes and such. However, after buying some recent games(not FS), I have come too the conclusion that I would probably be better off with an XBOX for games, as the last three I have bought have been extreme disappointments.. All were extremely buggy and required patches too make them run acceptably out of the box. Game makers seem to think its okay to put out a game that barely runs on a decent system, loaded with bugs just too get your dollar.. I decided that when I want to buy a game now, I wait for it too get cheaper at Amazon.. BUY IT USED! Especially the addons! As for Fs2004, I really enjoy it and it is a staple on my harddrive.. And I am not really ready to think about the next FS.
March 9, 200422 yr I'm not an X Plane "booster" by any means but I've worked with the program a lot on the design end. The most obvious difference is the smooth and fluid feel while in flight and the landing dynamics are wonderful. MSFS can feel pretty clunky at times and I'm not talking about frame rate effects. If you don't think this is a major difference then you're not paying attention. I do think you can build accurate flight models in both sims but because X Plane's FM is bottom up it's a fairly quick and easy process for anyone to create an aircraft that flies decently and close to the numbers. That's something that's much harder for the average person to accomplish in MSFS. It really takes an FM guru to get the best out of it. The bottom line for me is I'd love to see the same smooth fluid feel in MSFS and it would be a real improvement if aircraft creation was a quicker and more accessible process. The sad part is, I doubt it will ever happen as the MSFS community just really isn
