February 13, 201214 yr Author Good idea then. Get rid of that card and get one that will work with FSX. Right now the gtx 580 is the best of the best. That's until the gtx 680 is released, then you might see some dramatic improvements.Yeah I think I go for the GTX 580. GTX 680 will be way too expensive. Oh and btw, I don't think is an OS issue. Cuz last week I got my SSD and of course did a clean install of WIndows 7, and it has been happening since then. It has also been happening on my previous HDD, but worse. The SSD reduced the stutters, but did not eliminate them. Arjen Vandervelde

February 13, 201214 yr Author Excellent. You did a clean install. Before you did the clean install, did you set SATA to AHCI in BIOS?Yes it set to AHCI by default. It doesn't even wanna boot in RAID or IDE mode for some reason... Btw, I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Is there any performance difference between Home Premium and Ultimate in FSX? Arjen Vandervelde
February 13, 201214 yr Is there any performance difference between Home Premium and Ultimate in FSX?No. You have a 64 bit OS and that's what really matters. FSX requires the fastest CPU/RAM/GPU/HD combos. Even then, we need to wait and see how far can we OC Ivy and what Kepler will bring. We are almost there. Good luck! MSFS
February 13, 201214 yr One last thing, I didn't want to mention it because no two motherboards are the same, but I had your Asus board. It work well at first, then it began to have some major issues. I replaced it and have never looked back.If you start having double booting or unusual OS instability, get rid of that board.I know "it sucks" and makes this a very expensive hobby, but it happened to me and I just wanted to warn you. February 13, 201214 yr Interesting thread.I note stutters when using very high res photoscenery. I think it's graphic card bandwith, which i hope pcie 3 will help. Sometimes around 1 out of 5 times, when booting, it shuts off after 10 seconds, then reboots and reboots succesfully. OS instability, didn't notice anything. What do you mean then, and what board do you recommend me? Btw, I'm only 17 and I'm not rich, really expensive hobby indeed... Arjen Vandervelde

It's fairly priced and works great. However, it will become obsolete in about two months. The new boards will support PCE V3 and the new chips will be about 10% faster. The new GPU, that's a different animal altogether. It will be a huge expense without any guarantees that the IQ will be there. If you can't wait replace the board ASAP. The gtx 580 is a great card with 275.33 driver support. If you choose to wait for Ivy & Kepler. Keep in mind that it will be costly without any guarantees. I still might take a shot. It's what I do. Risk taker! MSFS

February 13, 201214 yr What is so "junk" about the board then? I've had no problems with it whatsoever except for this double boot problem. Did you also have stutters with the old Asus board then?By junk I mean, unstable. When I first got the board, I installed OS and FSX, I noticed stutters and lags. I updated BIOS and set RAM timings and was able to eliminate the problem. Then I noticed CTDs, hard drives disappearing, and double booting. That's when I realized I had a problem with the board. I did some investigative work and noticed other users were having similar problems. I went ahead and replaced the board and immediately I notice a major improvement.I'm sorry that this also happened to you. I don't wish frustration on anyone. The best thing to do is continue to troubleshoot and if you find that it's happening to you too, then replace it if you can afford to. MSFS
February 13, 201214 yr I don't think a GTX580 will help with your stutters. That 560ti 448 is on par with the GTX480 & GTX570 so it's already a great GPU. A GTX580 is just a 20% faster

Had many CTD's in the past, API.dll, or ntdl.dll. About the RAM timings, it's set to auto. Do you recommend putting in the timing from the specifications? (9-9-9-24)?Do you think the MSI Z68A-GD65 might be a good choice? Shall I take the G3 or B3 version? Arjen Vandervelde
February 13, 201214 yr First, I apologize in advance for asking these two questions, but just in case . . . . . . . . . .you did install SP1, then start FS, then install SP2?Are you certain you're running on all cpu cores? (Mine defaulted to ONE core for some reason after doing some tweaks, thankfully that was resolved)Also, you said you have a newly installed OS; how do your background apps and services look? Got those disabled as needed? I would look at those before considering the FSX.cfg or hardware changes.I would also back off the overclock while troubleshooting stutters or any other issues. If I had to recommend a different board than mine I would opt for a board that supports PCIE 3.Maybe Dario can help with this one. He is the hardware guru I turn to when I need help.
