WideScreen enable in FSX.cfg

Featured Replies

Could someone please explain how to do this. I am not sure which config file I need to change and the path to finding it. I realise it is a simple task but I just cannot find it or don't know how to findit! Thanks,Chris

In you fsx.cfg, which (in Windows 7) is C:Users[your username]Application DataMicrosoftFSX[Display]WideViewAspect=True

The easiest way is this: go to start and copy this into the Search field:%AppData%MicrosoftFSXfsx.cfgIt will instantly open the cfg you need. Search for wide and change the settings from False to True.EDITMy way is easier then PJ's way because the folder you need is hidden by default. BTW I think the path Paul posted misses the Roaming folder and the Application Data folder is actually called AppData... so it should readC:Users[your username]AppDataRoamingMicrosoftFSX:wink:

Assuming you're running Win7... C:Users(Your user name)AppDataRoamingMicrosoftFSXFSX.cfg. In the [Display] section WideViewAspect=TrueDJ

Get your fact straight, Jeroen: It's repeated into the "Roaming" folder as part of the user's profile - introduced when the NT version of the Windows OS first came out many years ago. The Roaming profile allows for users to log in to another pc in the same workgroup or network, as I remember... and as far as being simpler to - that's a pretty subjective argument. I use a script to launch FSX, and a piece of that script is the direct path to the cfg file. He didn't say anything about not seeing the file extension, and I simply cut n pasted it into the post.

Well, a lot of people (if not most) have hidden folders actually hidden and since the folder with the fsx.cfg is hidden by default I think it is simpler to use my method otherwise the next post would likely be 'I can't find that freakin' folder'. :wink:As far as Roaming is concerned: I stand corrected. :(

Probably most. I actually think that the roaming profile and user profile are maybe some relic of 'backward compatibility', Jeroen, in any case either place will be useable, but Windows 7 does seem to have an inordinate number of linked files and folders. This is going to become even more of a trouble-shooting issue with the advent of Windows 8, and it's 'New Look' desktop.

I`ve done this edit, but can`t see any difference in the display. What does it actually do?Eddie

It does just what it says: Sets your view aspect angle wider but I'm not sure of the degrees. You will see more of the world in front of you with the same zoom factor.

You must be doing it wrong! There's a very marked difference, giving a much wider view angle. Imagine zooming to .40x without "wideview" (which is my standard zoom for EZDCA). I don't use the tweak, as I've found standard view with .40% zoom is most realistic for me.
