Better performance with X-Plane 10.04 Beta 4

Let me say from the start that I don't want to get your hopes up. Your experience may NOT be the same as mine. Before this beta update, I was seeing "good" frame rates with most settings 2 or 3 notches from the top. For an example, with the Corenda 172 on the GA ramp at KSEA, my FPS would hover at around 43. When flying in this area, it would fluctuate between 27 and 54 FPS.After the beta update, I am seeing "better" frame rates (about 51) with most settings at their highest level. Again, with the Corenda 172 on the GA ramp at KSEA. When flying in this area, I am now 34 to 61 FPS.In Both cases, I have the cloud puffs set to "5%" and the shadows set to "static"Here is a list of my other settings...Before:The following items are "checked"... compress textures to save VRAM, runways follow terrra contours, 3-D bumps maps, gritty detail textures, draw volumetric fog, draw per pixel lightning.texture resolution: highnumber of trees: populatednumber of objects: tonsnumber of roads: tonsnumber of cars: Siberian winterdetail distance: mediumairport detail: highwater reflection detail: lowscreen anti-aliasing: 4xanisotropic-filter:4xlater field of view: 075.00(everything else not checked or off)After:The following items are "checked"... I have NO other addons installed accept the Carenda 172Computer Specs:in sig!

Noticeable improvements noted. :smile:It actually seems quite a bit more efficient, most especially in the clouds.

I wish this forum did not "time limit" edits... I apologize to "Carenado" for the incorrect spelling in my first post!

Yeah I'm happy with performance now, with my mediocre E6850 that got 8-10fps before at default scenery levels and no AI, can now get close to 20 with higher level of scenery with no AI, and about 13-14 with all 20 AI aircraft.. (Which is fine by me) More than that the stutter problem that existed on my system, is completely gone. So one of the 2 stumbling blocks preventing me from purchasing it is gone, now I just have to get some disk space!!!

Thanks

Lol! Yes, I am happy with the ability to run clouds now, without having to really think about it.I also had my very first crash ever using Xplane10.Then I realized I had a controversial flight product that I will not name running full-bore in the background at the same time.No wonder my poor computer crashed! (I also had over a dozen other screens open) :(

Actually the latest beta killed my frames to a slideshow for whatever reason.I'll be knocking everything back to minimum again and bringing it back to life like Frankenstein's monster when I have a spare hour or two.Update to follow.

same hereupdated Saturday and am getting serious stutters

Ok....took the time to go through the tear down and rebuild process and managed to return roughly to where I was before the latest release. The clouds are utterly dire though....I had to turn "puffs" down to zero from the previous 50% which is kind of a drag. But on my modest system I get perma-locked 30fps with:The following items are "checked"... compress textures to save VRAM, 3-D bumps maps, gritty detail textures, draw volumetric fog, draw per pixel lightning.texture resolution: very highnumber of trees: populatednumber of objects: a lot (this slows my load time)number of roads: default (this kills my load times when set higher)number of cars: Chicago suburbsdetail distance: highairport detail: defaultwater reflection detail: lowscreen anti-aliasing: 4xanisotropic-filter:4xlater field of view: 070.00(everything else not checked or off)I'm not sure what happened to the clouds. I'll mess with it a bit more when I have the time. It certainly is smooth and looking better than ever.Oddly enough I noted when I selected "birds/deer" that also dropped frames.

hmm on Linux it's telling me I already have the latest release so I will hold on to this 10.04 beta 3 for a while. Maybe wait around till the next beta release.

You have to "check" the "beta" box... perhaps.

Yes I do have that checked. It's the second time that has happened but it doesn't bother me, eventually it will get around to it like last time.
