February 19, 201214 yr I have been having this stutter problem with FSX for some time now . I have google and asked on a few othet forums with no help . The crazy part is I only get these stutters in dx9 mode and fawless performance in dx10 mode . People keep saying thats backwards, dx10 is worst than dx9 . It seemed to start after new video card driver were above the nvidea 270.61 driver . But as new games come out one has to install new drivers . So I went back to the 270.61 driver and behold have the same stutter issue . Then I stumble across a post on another forum where someone said its the c++ updates from MS . Si I'm lost as to the fix to run FSX in dx9 . Dx10 is fine but now I have many addons that won't work with DX10 (textures).I ussaly run 30+ FPS and as high as in dx10 and pretty close with dx9 . Sliders are from 3/4 to maxed out .specscore [email protected]ASUS sabertooth x58 MB6GB crucial balistics ramEVGA 470 1280mb superclocked (overclocked)Any help would be most apreciated . core i7-975@ 5.0 ASUS sabertooth x58 motherboard 12gb crucial ballistics @2000mhz 2 msi 6970 2gb gpus in crossfire 1000 watt psu water cooled windows 7 64
February 19, 201214 yr Does your FPS hold steady or does it fluctuate? Are u locking your framerate? Matt Wilson
February 19, 201214 yr As Matt alluded to,lock your frame rates at 30fps...I am using the latest driver with the built in frames limiter and setting them with Nvidia Inspector..Stutters are pretty much a thing of the past...GTX285 OC...I7-920 @4G C172P N97674 PPL SEL Complex High Performance
February 19, 201214 yr Author It does flux, about 10 fps in both DX10 and DX9 . In DX 9 at KNFW (carswell) I get 27 to 35 in DX9 and 35 to 40 in DX10 . I have set mt FPS slider in all kinds a places, and right now is set at 55 fps . core i7-975@ 5.0 ASUS sabertooth x58 motherboard 12gb crucial ballistics @2000mhz 2 msi 6970 2gb gpus in crossfire 1000 watt psu water cooled windows 7 64
February 19, 201214 yr Author Ok I locked the FPS at 30, went for a spin and FPS flux was 27 to 30 . Much less than be for . Ran in DX9 mode . Still have stutters . February 19, 201214 yr Try downloading the newest Nvidea driver and Inspector. It has an option for an external fps limiter. Set it at 30 and set the fsx limiter to unlimited. It helps some people with stuttering as well as a fps boost. Have u made any changes to your cfg? Matt Wilson

I will also try inspector. The only cig. changes I made was to add a couple of lines, but again with no help . So I changed them back . Thing that gets me is it ran super in DX9 on a slower PC and this one until I had to upgrade drivers and MS did its update . core i7-975@ 5.0 ASUS sabertooth x58 motherboard 12gb crucial ballistics @2000mhz 2 msi 6970 2gb gpus in crossfire 1000 watt psu water cooled windows 7 64

I think I spend more time tweeking and tuning then I do flying. I also dont think u can totally git rid of the stutters. U just have to minimize them the best u can. Have u tried an affinity mask tweek? Matt Wilson

Like I said I played this sim flawlessly for years with out a hiccup, until the last 6 months or so . I never did any kind of tweaks . But your right its one finicky game .Just out of curiosity, FSX from my reading is a CPU hog instead of a GPU hog . So with that said I don't understand how a GPU that only has about 35% load can cause these problems . core i7-975@ 5.0 ASUS sabertooth x58 motherboard 12gb crucial ballistics @2000mhz 2 msi 6970 2gb gpus in crossfire 1000 watt psu water cooled windows 7 64
February 19, 201214 yr Troubleshooting stutters has got to be one of the more pain in the butt things to try to do, simply because there are so very many different things, and combination of things, that can contribute to that.I am lucky right now <knocking on wood>, in that if I have stutters, they must be extremely small as I can't see them. The only time I see stuttering, is if I am in heavy weather with my REX2 HD clouds, and usually just in exterior view. While I can't state specifically what to look for, I can state steps I took in setting up my FSX.Made sure I have the latest DX9 runtime from MS.Clean install video drivers, removing older ones and then using Driver Sweeper.Run the latest official Nvidia whql drivers for my card - at this time, 285.62. I normally do not play around with the beta drivers.Make sure my motherboard has the latest chipset drivers from the mfg website.I keep my hard drives defragged, some prefer third party defraggers for this - I myself find the built in defragger in Windows 7 to be ok for me, I have it set to run once a week. N/A for an SSD.I have my virtual memory , set on a seperate physical drive, a small VM file on my C drive, like 150 mb, and the rest on the seperate drive.Set up my graphic card settings using Nvidia Inspector, per NickN's guidehttp://www.simforums...topic36586.htmlI also use the external fps limiter in Nvidia Inspector, set at 30 fps, and unlimited in FSX.Most of my sliders within FSX are heavily biased to the right, but not all the way, most about a notch below, especially level of detail and autogen.I also added the following to my fsx.cfg file regarding autogen:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1000Seems like when I did that for the autogen, it helped smooth things out somewhat as well.I run only 25% Ai aircraft thoughThe 2 other main things I did with the fsx.cfg file, was the PoolSize=0 under Bufferpools, and the Highmemfix=1 under Graphics.Don't know if anything in the above might help you or not, best of luck in getting smoother performance out of your FSX install ! February 19, 201214 yr In your config file put in as follows.[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=14This will asign fsx to use 3 cores instead of 4. This will free up a core for other services to use that helps with stutters. I dont know if your cpu has hyperthreading but I believe u will need to use a different number instead of 14 if u use hyperthreading. Or simply disable it and use 14 Matt Wilson
February 19, 201214 yr I have been having this stutter problem with FSX for some time nowHelloWhen was the last time you blew the dust out of that machine ?Give it a good clean out esp the CPU cooler and inside the GPU shroud.

At the end someone in that thread just turn off hyper threading . I will give it a go.HelloWhen was the last time you blew the dust out of that machine ?Give it a good clean out esp the CPU cooler and inside the GPU shroud.I clean my PC every month . I have had people see it and flip out how well I take care of it and how clean it is .I will try your ideas and see how it works out . I still think it has somthing to do with DX or C++ from MS . Thats the only things that have changed in the last 6 or so months when this started . I will report back it I do find a fix . thank you all . core i7-975@ 5.0 ASUS sabertooth x58 motherboard 12gb crucial ballistics @2000mhz 2 msi 6970 2gb gpus in crossfire 1000 watt psu water cooled windows 7 64
February 19, 201214 yr If u think it is a Microsoft update u might wanna do a registry clean in case u have something funny going on. Its a long shot but worth a try. I use CCleaner. Its easy to use and a free download. Matt Wilson
February 20, 201214 yr The list given by dburne is good. A couple of other things to try once you have done all that:1. http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html2. http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.htmlNumber 1 can make a big difference, although most of the tweaks have been mentioned already.Number 2 adds a final polish for a stutter-free experience. I use the external frame rate limiter, as the one built into nVidia Inspector does not work on my system.Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
