A dedicated failure utility

Featured Replies

Hi,Like most true flight simmers, I like to add maximum realism to my flights. While we are spoilt for choice when it comes to weather, flight planning and ATC, I would really like to see a program dedicated to introducing failures. I have extensively used FS Passenger and more recently started using FS Captain. I think both programs do a good job of adding uncertainty through their failure modules. But alot of times when I'm doing GA VFR flights, I wish there were a program that would introduce the chance of a variety of random faliures without having to load up passengers and making announcements. Imagine how cool it would be to have a program that could simulate a wider range of failures than the standard few currently offered, and while I'm at it, what if it were capable of doing so based on aircraft type and your handling of the aircraft?I dont know, maybe there just aren't enough users to warrant the development of such a specific utility. But if there are, then I think developers behind FSP and FS Captain would be well-positioned to create something like this. Thanks for your time,Sam

Ohh well, guess I'll just have to be happy with what we have at the moment.

look for realengine in the library, works nice with pistons, and you have to take care of your engine much more.

Even the standard failure in FSX is good ...the only thing missing is Probabiliy. It would have been good if there was a % of the failure happening.I don't want to fly an aircraft knowing I am going to have a 100% failure today. I want to set a small % (say 2%) in some ini file and forget about it and then fly as usual. This way, the failures would be surprsing or more natural/realistic

There is an aircraft where you can select the failure probability level from never, rare, likely, to certain. Failures are both random and pilot error induced.Every system is modelled (hydraulics, electricity, fuel, engine, flight controls etc) It is the freeware DC3C by dutch owen. The VC graphics are old dated but it is still one of my favourite aircraft because you have to monitor the gauges periodically like in a real aircraft. When you encounter a failure, you have to use the check list. If you do things correctly every failure is survivable. It is very challenging. I prefer a deep system modelisation to an eye candy VC.

Sam,If you install the FS Captain ACARS into your GA aircraft, you can use them for "ferry flights" which would skip all of Pax / Cargo requirements. You could configure your GA aircraft to bypass the fuel loader if you want to handle that yourself as well. Too, you could turn off the annoying noise from the right seat per-aircraft. :rolleyes:The only thing that would still be a 'requirement' would be to hit your estimated time enroute. Even then you could ignore that, park where you'd like, and erase the flight from your captain's log.I've asked Dutch about the possibility of having "non-scored flights" in a future version that would allow you to enjoy the failure generator, and/or the hazard package without having to do a brain-wipe of the log. Maybe post 1.3.1?

Fspassengers does just that, you set for example 2% chance of failure, or whatever you would like,You can also exclude parts if the program via the cfg file or fspassengers.I have excluded the payload part of it as i like to control that myself, also excluded the sim rate penalty, and also the lighting penalty.I like to use it for the failure part of it.
