February 20, 201214 yr Guys,Just a simple question for you. I am planning to buy one of these packages. Which one would you recomend? AS 2012 or REX (with Essentials coming out soon)/?ThanksIvan Ivan Majetic ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO; 7900X3D; NZXT KRAKEN ELITE 360, GIGABYTE RTX 4080; G.SKILL TridentZ NEO RGB DDR5 64 Gb, WD HDD 2TB, SAMSUNG 980PRO, SAMSUNG 970EVO Plus 2x, ALIENWARE 3423DWF
February 20, 201214 yr I have always been an active sky user since AS6 and havent had any problems with it. I tried using REX but it had issues setting it up as I fly online and dont load custom or preset themes to my sim. I go with whatever the weather is real time. i7 4790K 4.8GHz, 16GB DDR3 1866MHz, EVGA RTX 2080 XC. 1TB M.2 SSD, 4TB HDD, 4K display. P3D v4.4, FSLabs 320, ORBX Global, Vector, Fly Tampa Airports, FSDT Airports, ActiveSky, REX Sky Force
February 20, 201214 yr Use Active Sky for weather and use REX [Essentials] for textures. This is just my personal preference.
February 20, 201214 yr I have only used REX, but can state I have been very pleased - it looks gorgeous to me.The general consensus in the past, has been to use ASE for weather, and REX for the textures. Now however they released AS 2012 which has it's own textures, and REX is soon to release the huge update, Essentials, free for registered REX users, that sounds like will have a much better weather engine along with a lot of other updates as well...I would read up on both, along with the Essentials features that are being listed at the REX website, and thenFlip a coin... :( Don B
February 20, 201214 yr I'd just wait.REX promised the world with their last weather engine and it fell flat.If REX's new weather engine doesn't deliver then if you can only buy one program, AS2012 may be it. If it does add up then REX may do it all finally with no hiccups. Time will tell. Edited February 20, 201214 yr by bonchie
February 20, 201214 yr Bought REX as it's cheaper (Because I'm a poor sod), and I'm MASSIVELY pleased. The textures are second to none, it's totally changed my experience of FSX. However, the FP is distinctly average, and I don't like how little you can zoom out on any map you have in REX, whether it be FP or weather deets. Hopefully Essentials will make this a little better, it looks promising.
February 20, 201214 yr I own both Rex and AS2012. In terms of textures, REX seems to have a slight edge. I have to give weather to AS2012. It has given me some fantastic overcasts and low visibility flying. I have been really pleased with the AS2012 weather engine. Scott KGPI

February 21, 201214 yr I thought you had to load every single time using different themes. So which is like the default general theme for the textures to set and forget. Or can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to use it. I personally use active sky because i fly on vatsim so i just want real time real world wx. As long as you're happy with your current theme, you don't need to go into REX.Cheers,- jahman.
