>I guess I don't have a life. I simulated 100% of my flights>in real time.I asume that is because you fly the PMDG B737 and this thingie does not accept very well that you accelarate the time. :)I do both, for the PMDG B737 I fly real time. But on the B747 long haul and transcontinentals I accelarate to 4x at max.

I'm not much for very long real-time flights in heavy jets. To each his own but it seems pretty pointless to me and I really don't like the idea of speeding up the time. I fly everything in real-time with most flights lasting no more then about 2 hours. I guess those long haul flights on autopilot and GPS at 34,000' turn some people on but I'm not one of them.TonyDigital-Flight

How do you guys handle ATC that constantly ask you to "Contact Center on xxx.xx". I usually get this every 10 to 15 minutes while flying from say KSEA to PHNL. There is no way to leave my computer unattended without getting my flight plan canceled by ATC...

When you get the message, acknowledge, then tune the new radio, then you can take a break. As long as it's tuned but you have't contacted him yet they won't bother you and you can leave for as long as you like.billg

I do everything in real time (1X). I've done several crosscountry and transatlantic and transpacific routes. The only "unreal" thing I do is I have the AutoPilot on and I'll work on my other computer (surf the web, play games, read e-mail).

You can't leave for as long as you want when 15 minutes later your asked to contact another ATC Center. As you cross different airspaces you come under control of another ATC station. I don't know if flying over the Atlantic is different than the Pacific because when I fly from KSEA to PHNL I'm constantly asking to contact this or that center. I have to constantly monitor FS or my flight will get canceled. If once I got over the water ATC left me alone for awhile I could do long haul flights. Maybe I'm not planning my flights correctly.

You can also lose the flight plan, allowing it to cancel, and then use option to create flight plan again, but DO NOT go to airport, just stay where you are and the plan will work itself out again but from wherever you are.I do this on long flights so that I have proper(?) ATC approaches and landings.

Hi As you can see from my banner, I use Radar Contact and never have that problem. Radar Contact is a "zillion times" more realistic than the FS ATC, and lot more of a challenge.Give it a shot.Bob

On what?Dave

I already bought Radar Contact some time ago but I don't like the fact it's not synced to the default AI traffic. I don't like ATC vectoring me in front of oncoming traffic or sitting on hold for takeoff waiting for some imaginary aircraft to land. Until Radar Contact figures out how to work along side FS2k4's (Ultimate Traffic) AI traffic database, I'll pass on using it.

I also fly in real time. I admit it's wierd, but I get a measure of satisfaction from flying trips in real time. I generally get the airplane up to cruising altitude and then if I have work to do I'll do it then, occasionally switching back to FS to monitor the progress of the flight. Then about 150 NM I'll initiate the descent, run through the in-range checklists, fly the approach and land. On long flights I do about 3-4 hours of work at the computer while FS does its thing.

I do all flights in realtime (1x). Even the longest ones, sometimes overday, if I *know* that I'll be at home, and do some other stuff, like cleaning, reading, whatever... It's pretty neat to have a flight running, even online, and keep checking if ATCs appear on the way. I get anyway a signal by the BAV ACARS if there's ATC online, so I can take a peek. Would never fly "un-real" speeds, because then the whole "simulator" thing looses the idea of "simulating".

I gave up long flights for this reason. Nothing more than an hour for me. I've read about 20 some replies to this thread and some that state that they leave the computer and return to land or use time warp. Of thoses I wonder how many of them use FSFailure like I do. I feel that using this addon makes the one hour flight seem to be more of even though its short it could end up being not perfect. I do know the feeling of wanting to do a long trip but where i use to feel would rather be sitting in front of the computer I now would rather be away from it. The worst is when I start a flight because I'm bored and then find myself bored flying. However I did do an around the world flight in the 737 and lear using only the keyboard (no joystick or yoke also no weather but clear calm) and would take off around 11:30 at night climb to alt set on a slow cruise and land in the morning after a good nights sleep.
