Xplane Cockpit Builders

Featured Replies

Anybody have any experience with Xplane in a homemade cockpit? Kind of impressed with Xplane's GA performance and oddly enough most of my gear works pretty well and in some cases better. I'm looking at external gauge programs. I've tested XPX with XPUIPC and my PM GAIFR and worked great, read that it should work with Aerosystems AU 737 program, but couldn't get XPX to work, but XP9 did, odd. What I'm looking for is an external GNS 430/530 program. So I've been checking out flythissim's simavio, but not much info is available on how good or bad it is. Does anyone know of any other XPX programs for cockpit builders?

VRinsight use Flythissim with Xplane and their V1000 line, they also plan to add support for the GPS5, U-ProPit and ProPit. Strangely enough I found out that snippet of info about 45 minutes ago, lol. I dont have any personal experience with their software though, sorry.

Cheers, Andy.

Flythissim seems to be the only option. Going to see if they have any deeper documentation or I'll just contact them direct.

Really Gorgeous Scenery, Video didn't do it justice.

Well XHSI seems really cool, ran a few tests, like how it adapts to whatever the config of the plane. Tested it using x737 and can see some possibilities. I'm really enjoying how easy it is to interface my gear once you find the right plugins. I'm really starting to dig Xplane 10 and its capabilities. I just bought accufeel for FSX and now since I've been giving XPX a workout, I'm noticing short of the door opened sounds it has alot out of the box. Multimonitor support can't be matched and the built in XP networking (hope to test soon) seems cool. Saw a few XPlane setups on youtube and can see the appeal.

Well, started trying to setup my GA home cockpit using XPX and have to say it's been interesting. I checked out SImAvio and even bought the 430/530 pack. The gauges and setup program are top notch, but the problem I'm facing is that it offers very limited hardware compatibility. The more popular FS models aren't supported and appear to cause conflicts. Simavio appears to be more garnered to the touch screen crowd. I have two touchscreens, but still prefer to turn or push a real button. I do so love its gauges though, just hope that with XPX they look into trying to expand their compatibility or I would rebuy if they offered FSX/P3D compatibility with hardware support. Also checked out Simplugins and it's no frills program, but it does work as it provides limited control features. The Gauges could use some loving though. One thing though it appears each gauge is it's own executable and runs as a client to the XPX server..Weird.My trusty PMGAifr works just fine, basic no frills.Going to check out the Gauge Factory next as they have some nice renders. I really love GA flying in XPX and hope I can settle on something that I like.

Vincent, I am not sure if that was your setup in the video above? If not, have you got the urge to buy some real panels? I will be looking in to that soon as well after I get my panels working with DCS:a10. Thats not a sales pitch, just a question :) I have always liked at least having radios, navs etc on hand.

I built a simpit that runs fully in X-Plane 9.70, I have yet to test it in XPX as of yet. I use Simkits gauges and a plugin written by SuperDuif to control my old non USB gauges and Simkit's own plugin to control their newer USB ones. X-Plane is fantastic for controlling switches and axes right out the box but if I want to use toggle switches (who doesn't) I have to use a keboard mapping program. It works wonders though and didn't take long to setup.RhydianIMG_2432small.JPG

That looks good, it's certainly nice to have real switches to move about. It looks very tidy, good job on it. I think on and off about making some real gauges but I am still pretty happy about using monitors for that. If I ever do a replica cockpit for something I really like I will probably have to make at least a few steam gauges as monitors never fit in to replica GA or military aircraft well. I have been meaning to try out a simple one just for fun, when I get time to draw something up and put it in the laser I will see what I can do.

Thanks Jason. To be honest I would stick with your touch screens. Speaking from experience of servo driven gauges that are expensive (to say the least) mostly clunky and not that quick to respond, which sort of negates x-plane's superb smooth gauges that come right out of the box. Unless you have stepper motors which are fairly expensive but are even more expensive and complex to build I would have gone for a monitor representing the analogue gauges if I had done it all again. I remember the first time I put the aluminium cover on my 'microwave' (as the wife calls it). After screwing in place the 50th screw I had a mechanical fault on the altimeter. I had to take the whole sim apart just to re-calibrate it. Infuriating doesn't quite cover it! Although they look great, I feel that are a bit of a nuisance to be honest. Not that Simkits gauges are terrible in fact they are built very well, I just think a monitor would have much easier. But of course your experience may differ from mine. CheersRhydian

I am new to this forum and I am looking for some advice regarding simplugins for X-plane 9 from someone that has some familiarity with these things. I am using a Phidget 8 servo controller operating Hitech 422s servos. I have installed the Phidget Library 21, the latest .net Framework and the PhidgetAdvancedServo plugin from simplugins.com. Here's the problem: I am able to use the Phidget Control Panel to operate the servos. I can also run the test sequence on the plugin control panel. (This causes the servos to go through a test cycle twice) I wish to use the plugin on the same computer that x-plane is installed on rather than two networked computers. Can someone here tell me what the UDP settings should be in this plugin and what needs to be ticked or set up in X-plane to get it to talk to the plugin? Specifically, what are the UDP and port settings and do I need to modify the dot INI files beyond that of just adding datarefs? (I am using the sample rpm dataref and port 50002 as indicated in the example provided in the manual for testing puposes) By the way, this is a Robinson R-22 setup. The install/user manual is attached.

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sal
