So everybody loves it? Really?

Recommended Posts

Are we allowed to have a contrary opinion. I fear that we are not. To this point the reception is far too sticky sweet. I and three others who are long time flight simmers do not hold the same opinion toward the new product, not ever remotely so.So what are the ground rules?

My feelings exactly. I have a lot of complaints to make...but fear the gestapo will be knocking on my door. This is what we have been reduced to in this forum, unfortunately.

If you have valid complaints, they will stick im sure. If you just want to ###### and moan about the evil MS and how its "totally arcade" then im sure that will vanish.

Okay, so you have downloaded it, flown it, and have some facts to argue with? Or, not? Opinions are like, well, you know... provide some lucid points of fact to argue your position. If no fact to substantiate then all you are doing is complaining.. And complaints will merit the just attention they deserve and action they warrant.

So now we (AVSIM Staff) are the gestapo? You do realize that you are labeling me and our team something pretty atrocious don't you? Are you sure you want to walk down that path?

So, for folks who love FSX and have thousands of dollars invested in flight sim (and who might also fly XP-10 for its strengths (heaven forbid), to really enjoy a simple, smooth out-of-the-box VFR flight experience is "sticky sweet" and not somehow valid? If you are projecting expectations for Flight, they are just that. Flight, for what it is, is a silky, entertaining VFR flying experience that is different than FSX, or Xplane, or Fly!, or other past "simulators". So...in the spirit of "critique", what is it about Flight, for what it is (entertainment to capture the feel of "flying"--not managing an FMS computer, or talking to ATC or shooting an IFR approach) that you don't care for?Bill

Surely you don't truly believe that I am comparing anyone here to war criminals....it was meant to be taken metaphorically. I do understand how someone can take it that way, you don't deserve that so I apologize. My point is: the new policy for this forum is not conducive to an environment where people can come out and express how they really feel about this game. Otherwise, we would be seeing 10 threads knocking this game for every one that praises it. Most threads in this forum seem positive about the new release...and it looks very suspicious. Just because you don't happen to like Flight doesn't mean that the majority of members here who have tried Flight don't like it. Do you seriously believe that only 1 out of 10 who has tried Flight in the past few hours is enjoying Flight? What don't you like about Flight . . . specifically?I was hoping that Flight would have ATC, AI aircraft, and Real World Weather. But it doesn't (at least not yet). Despite those "missing" items, I'm still enjoying Flight for what it does offer.

Really? So now you are saying that we have removed 10 threads for each one allowed to stand. Interesting. I am the mod working this forum tonight and I have removed two. See, it is this blind statement of "fact" that will get your posts removed. Agrandisement will not work in your favor. As for the gestapo comment; you are addressing a person of an age that knows exactly, and painfully, what the moniker implies. No one on our staff deserves that, even if used as a "metaphor". Get my drift?

That's the whole point Arwen... They can't answer that question...

Sorry, but the argument that this is the feel of flight, and flight alone is wrong.Nothing handles even remotely to anything even half way done in the area of flight dynamics.

Tom:I'm not saying anyone is removing any threads. But I do believe that many people have been put off by the closure of this forum, especially from the 'anti-flight' crowd hence the lack of criticism present since the forum re-opened. I'm surprised we don't have more activity than we do now... I would think there would be a lot more threads about flight's release. This is my impression.

Can you restate that? I don't have a clue as to what you are saying.

The period from Jan 2009 until Feb 2012 provided us nothing but speculation and guessing regarding what the next step in the Microsoft Flight Simulator might take. Starting 18 months ago we began to get new glimpses. However, some degree of expectation set in regarding the degree to which MS Flight would retain the familiar. There is easily found evidence which suggested that Flight would deliver on many of the old experiences. As evidence unfolded in 2011, a picture formed that presented some contradictions. The scholarly literature on Marketing (for instance, Olshavsky and Miller, 1972 - http://www.jstor.org/pss/3149600) has spoken of the potentials ills and benefits of the positive exaggerations of a product. So, it would seem that projecting expectations is a well-established phenomenon in the product life cycle. For these reasons, it does not seem out of step to judge Flight on promises AND delivery. I am meant to think that I'll have some semblance of a mountain bike, and when the product comes, it is a pink bike for young girls, I believe the delta between expectation and reality is fair for critique. As such, I think it fair to extend critique beyond what is at hand and speak to what is missing vis-a-vis the previous version. When Ford introduced the Focus, it was a car to replace the Escort and the Focus contained an attractive set of features for its target audience. Then, in the mid-life of the model, Ford drastically reduced the quality and appeal of the North American model but moved forward with a much more appealing model for the rest of the World. For the years that the North American model was inferior, sales were lower. So, having things taken away does have a negative impact. However, in 2011, Ford reunited the model across all markets and it seems as though the vehicle may reattain its renown in North America.I share the Ford Focus story to highlight that it is not inappropriate for customers complaining when they have lost quality relative to older models. While I will refrain from exceedingly damaging language, the "we're shutting 'er down" announcement, and the "watch your step" header up now do give an uneasy feeling to anyone who wants to render negative opinion. In short: I do not think that opinions which consider the longer-term trajectory of the product should be dismissed outright. After all, MS Flight does have quite a bit of historical context behind it. I am personally hoping that MS Flight evolves to re-embrace some of its history.

As they may well have been... And your use of the word "criticism" is exactly the reason. Criticism based on guess, gut feel, conjecture, agendas, et al, can be effectively stated ONCE. Not ad nauseam.
