Tom:. I'm surprised we don't have more activity than we do now... I would think there would be a lot more threads about flight's release. This is my impression.
There IS a lot more activity. Its just most of them get deleted.....

Okay... that's not helpful if it is meant as humor, and if it is a statement of fact, you really need to substantiate that.
Sorry, but the argument that this is the feel of flight, and flight alone is wrong.Nothing handles even remotely to anything even half way done in the area of flight dynamics.
Totally have to disagree with that statement. I'm not trying to be rude or insulting or anything, but I really have to wonder when someone makes a statement like that, which is 180 degrees from what many others think about Flight's flight modeling (many of whom are pilots). Did you neglect to turn off all the flying assists in the Option Menu? Are you using a joystick, or just doing a quick try-it-out, only using a mouse?Flight's flight dynamics are as good as any 3rd Party addon that I have used (including A2A's Piper Cup and Carenado's Stationaire) . . . and WAY better than any of FSX's default aircraft. Have you tried stalls and spins? Turbulence and buffeting are also model, as are wind lift at ridge lines.I feel more like I'm actually flying with Flight than with any other Civilian flightsim I have used. And my older brother was really into flightsims, so I was pretty much raised on flightsims (including Microsoft Flightsim, X-Plane, Fly!, Flight Unlimited, ProPilot, and more).

Sorry. It was a joke. You guys are working really hard to keep things civil and I really do appreciate that.

I would have no problems paying another U$60-70 to get a FSX new patch fixing the engine. But I can't swallow this free MS Flight hype.
So far your post #6 and this one do not really provide anything meaningful to the discussion. The only conclusion I can draw from #6 is that you have a really small hard drive by today's standard.

Flight was not suppose to be released until the 29th. Wait until tomorrow.(And Tom, you better get some sleep . . . I have a feeling that tomorrow is going to be a very busy day here.)

I am sure the other mods will be here to fill in. But, I am thinking of anointing you MOD here... Feel like putting in some volunteer hours???Oh, and I am not too happy with the boys in Redmond either. They really flummoxed this release (again).

Interesting how the CEO (or was it COO?) of Icon said that the aircraft in Flight is actually pretty accurate. It has always been my opinion that any product that generates interest in the genre is a welcome addition. At least, that is how I view it.

Sure, I'll be glad to help in any way that I can. But I may not have a lot of spare time tomorrow, as my new PC is suppose to be arriving. But I'll volunteer any free time I have.

I wasn't too happy with them either. I thought I would have another day to finish up the Flight section of my website, and "Bamm!" suddenly Flight is available. ???Well, the beta was rushed, and the beta testers were totally left out of the loop, when it was announced to the rest of the world that the beta testing was about to end, So I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

That is the best of all the ideas, opinions, or statements I have read all night.Kind regards,

I think the new MS Flight shows some promise, but it clearly is DIFFERENT than what we 'hard core' sim enthusiasts are accustomed to with FSX. That said, I think FLIGHT has some pretty cool graphics improvements, that grabs you right away and you say to yourself: WOW, this is a LOT better "base graphics" than what comes (standard) in FSX. Then you start to notice that the scenery is scrolling by pretty smoothly, and NO it's not precisely what you thought, and maybe some things are MUCH better (like the TREES, the water, the coastline beaches) and some stuff still looks 'a little bit' like the base ground textures in FSX.If a person is a total newbie to flight, I think the new product is easily handled in the first few moments. A seasoned jet pilot? Probably a little thrown-off by the little plane they start you with, but you have to give them points for COOL, and the graphics inside that VC? Pretty darned nice, especially for FREE and FREE ain't bad.It seems there are plenty of PC owners who do not own multi-core bleeding edge boxes, and that crowd will likely love the FLIGHT that released today. Let's face it, unless you have a pretty strong box and willing to spend some time and effort fine-tuning it, you can really BOG DOWN by the time you have piled on the tons of add ons (see my signature bar), each of which takes SOME CPU and SOME FPS frame performance away. That is the greatest hope for FLIGHT, that the nuances of modern coding and 64-bit operating systems with decent quantities of RAM might provide a much smoother and lucious playground for the creative artists who pursue FLIGHT, both for Microsoft and for their partners in the effort. What you take away from the Flight OOBE (Out of Box Experience) is they were shooting for easy-to-fly, highline eye candy, and something that might lead people to want to spend more time pursuing flying. I think overall the goals were met. I'm not a person for their missions or cache hunts, I prefer to build a flight plan, program the FMC, and fly the heavy metal. There are no doubt many many others who don't want to learn the underlying stuff, but put the plane in motion and be able to take off and land after just 5 or 10 minutes of game play. Again, a success on that point.Flying with others is simply an offshoot of online flight such as Vatsim or IVAO, but of course totally random, and (apparently) without ATC (at least thus far). The biggest thing about Flight that holds promise is the very decent graphics, which if you think about it, is what will probably make it a success. We on the harder core edge of simulation are naturally hoping for PMDG to announce the NGX has been ported over to FLIGHT. I can't imagine how difficult that transition might be.Clearly, FLIGHT has brought many new things to our hobby, and we can only hope that some of the things that are so very positive right out of the gate (and there are many) will morph into an "Ultimate Flying Experience" that will bring us ever closer to "As Real As It Gets"...Time will tell, I think... and I don't mind being able to at last lay hands on FLIGHT!

Robert sir,That is an insightful appraisal of not just what Flight is, or what Flight isn't, but what Flight actually means. That is the most important consideration of all. Thank you sir. :hi:Kind regards,

I see a couple of things that bother me so far...1) blurry textures-e.g. blurries2) is it just me but does the water look like one of those things you put in the freezer for a sore neck-that maybe burst?3) Buildings are all grey until you get right on them and then the building textures appearFrankly I don't like the user interface so far-and haven't been able to get my rudder pedals to work yet

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Ya,Will be taking myself out of this convo.I along with plenty other, who actually do have a PPL don't really feel the need or motivation to explain flight dynamics, and feeling of aircraft to people who actually, truly think that Flight is as close as it can get.Its a joke...And the comment about a joystick....really? Yep, been flying with a mouse all along. Have fun guys.
