Question on Texture Modifications/Re-Paints
Hi, I've done some limited photo-texturing modifications to the engines, and have a new livery (Reeve Aleutian Airways) ready for upload. I think the PMDG EULA provides permission to upload these freeware modifications, provided I give proper credit to PMDG? Is this correct? One of my texture re-works got bumped at another location, and it's confused me about re-painting the DC-6's. Thanks Bill Schulz

xcamera definitions for DC6
Hi Onno, Can you use xcamera to get into the cabin and use the 3D internal view to set up wing/cabin/engine views? I'm frustrated that I can't set up any 3D cameras outside the cockpit....or else I'm missing how to open the cockpit door and "escape" the cockpit, so I can set up some views from the cabin. Any help is appreciated. Bill

Loss of Tiller on other Aircraft after Flying the DC-6
Hi, No problems going the other way...from 737 to DC-6, the paired rudde/tiller yaw all work. Odd, indeed! Thanks Bill

Loss of Tiller on other Aircraft after Flying the DC-6
Hi team, I've noticed that, after flying the DC-6, when I try to fly another aircraft (IXEG 737, FlyJ 737 are the only ones I've flown after the DC-6), I lose tiller control. Rudder will work, but not tiller. After an X-Plane reboot, the tiller on the 737's works fine. Just an observation, easy workaround, just wondered if others had noticed. Thanks Bill KGSP

Any Way to Exit the Cockpit in 3D view to Set up Cabin Views?
Hi Team, I really love your rendition of the DC-6, thanks so much! One of the joys of having a vintage airliner like this is re-creating some memories as a passenger--(even if only for short times in cruise!) With the cockpit door open, and stairs down, I still can exit the 3D "shell". Nor can I open the cockpit door to get to the cabin (which a pilot might need to do). Am I missing a trick to getting to the cabin to set up some views? Thanks so much Bill

Words I need to share with our Community
Tom, You've given so much to our Flight Simulation Community, including strong leadership, vision, and tangible commitment of your time and resources. For that we are eternally grateful, thank you. I hope you and your family can spend quality time in your remaining days. None of us know "our time", but we should all live fully--as I know you have, and will. My care Bill KGSP

EADT x737 3D Cockpit Preview
This looks so awesome, thank team for the continued great support of our hobby! Is there any way to drop in a more complete, if even non-functioning 3-D shell in the meantime? I fly final approaches by hand most of the time (at least when not in IMC!), and in the 3D cockpit. Having a bit more defined 3-D shell than is there currently would be super! Thanks Bill KGSP

taburet xporbit
Hi, I use this product, and I'd say that it does add a bit of "plausibility" to the distant views, but it's still on the blurry side, not crisp. I would not fly airliner flights at altitude on clear days without it, however, as, when matched with SkyMaxx Pro, the overall feel is very good. Bill KGSP

Anyone Need Pushback from the Gate? Try Tugmaster!
Great utility...fun to learn how to drive the tugs! Bill

Skymaxx Pro is driving me crazy :(
What you were seeing may not have been "clear skies" but rather, a very limited visibility cloak...which looks like clear skies...that's my hunch, you were in very limited vis conditions--which don't change as you gain altitude.... I'm waiting on a WX injector--in the meantime, I typically load real wx, for winds, then go to "global" weather (manually) and re-set the clouds and vis to what I think approximates what I expect to see, skipping the METAR cloud info. X-Plane Default Autogen on RealScenery Florida Demo
Would be wonderful if you could work with X-Aviation to have their Florida scenery "enhanced" with this technique...I'd pay $5 to upgrade and not have to figure what looks like a rather technical challenge. Bill

Just Flight L-1011 in Prepar3D?
DCS or X-Plane? You have me curious! Also, do you live in Portugal? My descendants are from the Acores (and earlier, the home country). Went to visit Portugal in the 1990's, and drove through the inland countryside to the Sintra area and coast...what wonderful people and a beautiful country! Bill

Just Flight L-1011 in Prepar3D?
Thanks guys, this is very helpful information! I'll start by getting used to the migration tool, then try the JF 1011. Bill

Just Flight L-1011 in Prepar3D?
Hi all, After a year without FSX (hard drive crash and lack of will to re-install everything--so I tried, and liked XP-10), I've loaded up P3d with Rex Essentials and Just Flight's Traffic 360 and am happy to have a AI traffic and "full horizon" simulation option again! (lol....I do love just looking out of the "passenger seat" during cruise and look at the far horizon--which is very nice with REX). Anyway, my goal is to keep P3d pretty simple--including having just a few tubeliners and photo-real ortho scenery. I'd like to go with a mostly Lockheed and Airbus lineup (and leave the Boeing 737 to XP-10) So far in P3d I've flown: Just Flight Connie (default) The KBT Lockheed Electra Default FSX Airbus Project Airbus A-320 (though I'm having autopilot issues--could be because I've not read the manual) Default FSX CRJ Has anyone tried the new Just Flight L-1011 in P3d? Would love to have that bird. Also, I understand that there is an FSX migration tool available--but I assume I need to re-install FSX and add-ons if I want to port them over?? Is there any other way? (I've seen some folks edit the dll.xml file--but I'm not sure what specific edits to make to add a CS-707, etc... So...two questions--is the JF L-1011 "P3d compatible out of the box"? Does the "migration tool" require full SP2 Install, etc? Thanks! Bill KGYH

(Video) X-Plane 10 (64 bit) Tropical Breeze
Wonderful indeed! Very nice landing on top of it....really interesting and smooth yolk control. You just can't beat X-plane at dawn/dusk with good scenery.... This is the future for now Thanks Bill KGYH

considering buying X-Plane 10
I'm not going 64-bit for a while, I've got a stable XP-10 platform right now, and I'm happy with it. As soon as the high-altitude scenery cut-off/blur is fixed, I'll consider going to 64-bit Part of the fun of X Plane is trying to figure out when to "go Beta"! Lol B

considering buying X-Plane 10
I did fly the iFly 737 and enjoyed that very much, as I also enjoyed the PMDG J-41 The folks at x737 are working on a 3D cockpit that will be tremendous--and did I say, free? On the X-Plane payware front there is an upcoming Saab 340 that I'm saving for--so I can fly some Aleutian island hops in style (and Aleutian flying in Xplane is absolutely stunning and hair raising!) Once the "high altitude distance visibility/blurring" issue is solved in X-Plane, I'll likely not think of FSX ever again....so sorry, it just kills my machine (only a year old) and I can't run my second monitor with charts, etc... Keep trying with X-Plane...it's good now and will continue to get better if folks keep pushing Austin Bill

considering buying X-Plane 10
Interesting thread indeed! I've spent a ton of time and money purchasing "upgrades" to the FSX experience, like most everyone else that has stuck with that sim for a long time. About two months ago, I had a hard-drive failure (I do keep various back ups including a disk image), but I had a Raid set-up with an SSD...and I wanted to just move to a standard 1-drive system. The point? I couldn't just use my disk image for a back up, so I would have to re-install programs--including FSX and X-Plane 10. Well, the backup to XPX took about 12 minutes--just copy the folder from my external back up, update a few data files from Carbonite...bingo, I was flying again. Then I thought about the weeks it would take to re-build FSX and all the add ons. And I just couldn't bring myself to do it. So, I've been flying exclusively in XP-10 for two months, and that forced me into looking into this site for tips, scenery, aircraft etc, and it forced me to start evaluating and buying payware for XP-10. Man, am I a happy camper! Last week, for the first time in six years, I flew a great IFR flight with VATSIM, in low ceiling and visibility, and the experience in the freeware Project-737 was incredible! Smooth instrumentation and fluid feel in the air, great (but no over-done) turbulence and wind effects on final, super frame-rates and a nice "pop-out" from actual 3-D clouds to a wonderful XP rendition of KBOS (freeware). My palms were sweaty, and it was a total blast! While I miss some of the "airport candy" (moving jetways, ground crews, etc), I'm learning to really enjoy the actual flying in X-Plane much more...and I haven't even begun to wax on about how wonderful it is to fly on clear nights in X Plane! Long live FSX...but X-Plane is the King for me now! Bill KGYH

How To Activate Boeing 767 Doors/Frieght
Hi guys, A new 767 series has been uploaded at X-Pilot (I will ask this question there too), and the upload says that instructions for activating doors/frieght is in the manual. But they are not. Has anyone figured out how to activate these features? They indicate briefly in the upload it's via "sliders", but what does that mean? These 767's are fun, with solid external models, "big feel" flight model, and are a nice waiting place until the Leading Edge Saab and other good payware airliners are released (the 777 is a bit too big for me, but it look great.) Thanks! Bill

PADU & PADK in the Aleutians in "Flight". It's getting there!
Here are a few pics of the Stearman coming into PADU, Dutch Harbor. Nice details with the mesh (Mt. Ballyhoo) and with the Dutch Harbor area. Winter flying will be a hoot in "Flight"...lighting is very nice, as illustrated in the Stearman flyover of PADK, Adak. Now, with a DC-3 or Goose or other slightly faster plane with a cockpit...the Aleutians will be grand! Bill KGYH

Unalaka (PADU)
Hi...you bring up some great points...of course, it's all relative to the issue of value in general. If I compare what I don't like about my Toyota Corolla, vs a Prius with all bells and whistles (the Prius was designed to be the upgrade for Corolla folks), or worse, compare the Corolla to one of the smaller Lexus (another Toyota upgrade), it's kinda pointless. If folks had the budget for the Lexus, and wanted the add-ons, they wouldn't even consider the Corolla. Folks like Flight because it's an entry-level product--and we should compare it to other entry level flight sim products (which are not many). Of course, I, for one, think it is much more than entry level--for the money! Given that context (entry level, very affordable), what is there really not to like about Flight and Alaska at this point? B
-
Unalaka (PADU)
Right, so perhaps the FSX forum would be a better place to engage with folks, as most of us are interested in Flight's delivery of interesting flying opportunities in Alaska for around $16US.....just saying! Bill

Unalaka (PADU)
Thanks for the PADU pics! That is indeed what I remember from my visits there! Of course, the Aerosoft FSX add-on is beautiful, but I love the ambiance of Flight, and really look forward to my fun round robins from PASD-PACD-PADU and back in bad winter weather in Flight! Try PASD--Sand Point--it's amazing too in real life! Thanks again for the pics Bill
