February 29, 201214 yr Will there ever be one?Doubt it. That would run counter to Microsoft's new platform. The whole idea is to leverage dlc to generate steady revenue.

March 1, 201214 yr MS confirmed in a pc pilot interview their intention to work with others developpers. PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...

March 1, 201214 yr MS can tackle any project. They have some of the most talented developers in the world and they have access to a massive amount of resources. The devs have higher access to aircraft etc; Especially since they are on behalf of a multi-billion dollar company.
March 1, 201214 yr MS confirmed in a pc pilot interview their intention to work with others developpers.I think Microsoft have been eyeing the Apple model with their AppStore, and the massive profits that they have been making from other developers' efforts.Expect third-party developers to only be able to release via the Microsoft store, for Microsoft to take 30% of the proceeds, and for developers to have to buy a licence, to force developers to charge for their products. It seems an obvious direction for Microsoft to go in, and will keep the commercial developers of add-ons happy. March 1, 201214 yr Expect third-party developers to only be able to release via the Microsoft store, for Microsoft to take 30% of the proceeds ...Just read the interview with Joshua Howard.Looks like it's worse than I thought. Ian.
March 1, 201214 yr Well, it's statement from yesterday are more precise about the timeline. Same long term objective to work with developper when the customer base and demand expand. But he mentionned invest in bringing developpes which probably means developping the SDK or tools for others to work with the platform..So It seems definitively that for a 1 to 2 year this will be a MS endeavor.... not too pleased about that.... the more people and developpers on board, the faster the product would evolve... but thats their decision..... and it make me think twice before investing in this new platform (that was my first intention...). PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
March 1, 201214 yr I suspect as long as there is resonable success with the MS DLC, there wont be a released SDK. Free or not. Sounds like they are giving that concept two years to determine its success/sales numbers.. Edited March 1, 201214 yr by Barnstormer1 ArDee
March 1, 201214 yr My fear is that they will try and make their money by releasing a new aircraft every month or two, rather than add the missing functionality such as a working radio stack, AI traffic, etc, etc.My only hope is that they think they can develop the product a lot more before they allow third-party developers on board, rather than just a wish to keep all the income for themselves. What surprises me is the small area that they've landscaped, since they've added very little detail on top of what they could generate from readily-available terrain data. It makes me think that we may only ever get islands, since they require a lot less real-time rendering than land that extends to the horizon in all directions. Ian.
