NVIDIA Inspector profile not working in FSX! (again...)

Featured Replies

Hi Forum,I humbly ask your assistance in shedding some light on my NVIDIA inspector issues with FSX!I am trying to set my AA and AF etc from within NVIDIA inspector, as my understanding is that this should offer both higher image quality and better performance than using the in-game settings for AA and AFI have followed the instructions here and also checked on this AVSIM thread with a similar issue, but to no avail. It seems no matter how I configure my Inspector settings to override the AA and Filtering, as soon as I turn off the AA and set filtering to Trilinear in FSX, I just end up with no AA and trilinear filtering - the override doesn't work at all!I am running FSX SP2 (Accelerate) under Windows 7 Pro x64 (though I had the same issue under Windows 7 Home Premium)I have tried with various NVIDIA drivers, but am currently working with the latest WHQL set - 295.73.I am running Inspector version 1.9.5.11I have 2 x GTX 570 GPUs and have tried running in both SLi and single card mode - same results.Below are my Inspector settings:inspectors.jpgIf anyone has any ideas as to what I am missing here (sure it is something simple!), I would be very grateful.Cheers!

Cheers!

1: Don't take this wrong, but you are making sure to click on " apply settings" when you have them set up in Inspector right? Sometimes it can be the simple things.2: Try 8xS combined - disable Transparency supersampling.

No offence taken - I am sure it is likely something simple as I have tried all the hard stuff! That said I am fairly confident that I have "applied" each time, but I will double check this.

Will give this a go!Thanks

Hope something there helps! If not post back, lots of folks here very knowledgeable on Inspector, we'll get you going somehow.

Hi,Nvidia Inspector can be a great utility if it is set up right, but a disaster if it is not. This is primarily a video card hardware matter so I am moving it to the proper hardware forum. The people that can help you mostly hang out there.Kind regards,

Sadly, no joy with these changes - thanks anyway!

MrBenevolant,Try this:1. Download and install Driver Sweeper:http://phyxion.net/i...er-sweeper.html2. Uninstall everything Nvidia related in your control panel (PhysX, 3D Vision, Nvidia Update etc - uninstall the actual driver last) You may need to reboot several times during this - let it do that, but cancel out of any attempt to install a default driver after the reboots.3. After the final uninstall has finished, reboot the computer in Safe Mode. (hit F8 right as Windows starts loading to get the menu that lets you do this)4. Once in Safe Mode, run Driver Sweeper. Select the Nvidia Display and Nvidia PhysX filters and press Clean. Reboot after it finishes.5. Install 295.73 again and this time do a custom/advanced install - uncheck all the extra bloatware garbage (3D Vision, PhysX, HD audio etc) that the driver tries to install by default unless you actually use one of these things (most people do not) and check the "Clean install" box. You want to install just the driver itself. That pretty much ensures the drivers are installed completely pristine and clean. Try again with the Inspector stuff and see if it's fixed. I'd do a new FSX.cfg at the same time too.

Do you maybe have dx10 activated?

Do you maybe have dx10 activated?
I do...Is this an issue?
helpful stuff!.
Hi Tabs - indeed there was a time that I was diligent in doing this between driver swapping, but not of late!Assuming it isn't a DX10 issue, then I will certainly give this a try! Thanks

Of course. DX10 can't be used, NI has no effect if you run with DX10 on. Besides, it sucks badly. Why would you like to use it?

Hm - Interesting. Why would DX10 mode prevent you from overriding the AA and AF settings with the Inspector? Will have to give up on this then if that is the case, as I am one of the small percentage of FSXers who take a massive negative performance hit under DX9 compared to DX10 - like 70% or so drop in frame rate!

Cheers!

Why? I don't know. I only know it doesn't work. Sorry. If you get 70% FPS drop in DX9, then there is something wrong with your system, unfortunately. Basically, DX10 should be couple of percents better, but certainly not 70% difference. You should start looking for that reason, including maybe broken DirectX system (try updating, installing from redist file etc).As Ryan also said, complete clean install is also a good idea.

Thanks Word Not Allowed - that dos clear things up a bit!So:
  1. Nothing "wrong" with PC per se - nice clean build, high-end machine etc and all other DX9 stuff works fine!
  2. Thanks to your suggestion though, I did clean out my old, highly-tweaked FSX.cfg, create a new one, set everything to DX9 and then re-tweak the file with Bojote's tool and my personal tweaks...
  3. This changed DX9 from "unplayable" (i.e 10-20 FPS) to "OK" around 45-55 FPS in Friday Harbour...which is still quite a bit less than the 70-80+ I get under DX10, but is certainly playable!
  4. DX9 does look much more..."solid" I guess! I now don't have the annoying shimmering and texture flicker that I used to get under DX10, water textures looks a lot better and of course, my AA and AF overrides now work perfectly, as does VSync!

I just need to do more testing and tweaking now I guess. If I can make sure that I still get over 30 FPS in my 737NGX in busy, dense airports and major cities then I will certainly be leaving DX10 preview off for now.If not, then I need to decide where I want to trade - image quality or FPS!Thanks very much all for your input and assistance - it is much appreciated.Cheers

If your machine can take it, I suggest you look into BP=0 tweak. It's an amazing tweak for performance, IF your machine can take it!

Weirdly, I recall actually getting slightly better performance with BP enabled! That said, is having no "BP=" defined the same as having BP=0?I will try it at least!*sigh* Ahh - the mysteries of FSX...After lots of playing around this morning, I am still getting significantly more FPS under DX10.Now flying light GA over rural or open scenery, this is fine - I am still getting around 50-60 FPS average and about 30 FPS min, which I am happy with...(compared to 80-100+ FPS under DX10 with about 45 min)Problem comes if I then try my NGX from somewhere like Seattle Tacoma, with the ORBX scenery; I get 10-16 FPS with DX9 and 25-30 under DX10 which at that stage is quite significant!FWIW my machine specs are:i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz (1.30v on air)8Gb Patriot RAMP8P67 Deluxe MoBo2xGTX570Cheers mate

Cheers!
