March 4, 201214 yr Hey guys, with the newest nvidia drivers I am getting some really nice performance from good old Xplane 10 with all the bells and whistles enabled.I have noticed some of the beautiful shots that have been put up recently and thought I would give it a try with my own sim.I got OSM2XP, and some of "Zones" photoscenery as well as G2 xpl and tried to build myself a nice place to fly. Amstersdam had RIDICULOUSLY detalited OSM maps(apparently a professional mapping company donated all their mapping info to the OSM guys) and there are some pretty nice free photosceneries of the area. Here's what I came up with, these shots are leaving out of Schipol:It really only took a little bit of elbow grease, and you can make some very acceptable sceneries. Some things I would like to do further:I can't seem to get the colors right it's either too colorful or too washed out, I need to tweak my gamma correction but it's such a chore to keep reloading the sim to do so. I wish there was an openGL version of the enb software.Get some USA/Florida scenery. I am using G2XPL for this, but it's very time consuming, and Florida is such a big state, I may end up with a 100gb scenery. Also OSM data for Florida is pretty crap, there's no building data. There is shapefile data for Miami which apparently the next version of OSM2XP will be able to read.Learn to import google models and texture them, there's so much out there in the google 3d warehouse, all the buildings in Miami are done to some degree of detail.Xplane doesn't need alot of tweaking in config files etc... to get good performance, instead my time is spent building sceneries. March 5, 201214 yr honestly, the ground textures look FS2002ish RoyalSkies.CO.UK Youtube Vidz !My website will be back soon with new paints and videos! "I love walking in the rain cause no one can see my crying" "Those who enter the field for the sole purpose of impressing others with their aeronautical knowledge can never be true aviators."
March 5, 201214 yr Author @Darth MopI kind of agree(I would have said 2004-ish LOL), but this is pre-made, free photoscenery, it's not at the highest resolution because it's made for any system specs to download and use.I tried Google maps stuff for Amsterdam, and the problem is that because it's a rainy place, the scenery can be very hit or miss with regards to color consistency and clouds on the tiles. This guy at least went through the trouble of color correcting the scenery. This was just an experiment and really, for something freely available it's not that bad, also I was flying low(maybe 500 feet agl), so it's going to expose the worst aspects of photoscenery in general.I do like the way the scenery and objects come together, it's kind of amazing really that these two independent programs and processes can mesh together so well.I am in the process of getting much higher detail scenery of my home state of Florida, which I hope will show what the scenery engine in XPX is capable of. March 5, 201214 yr with the newest nvidia drivers I am getting some really nice performance from good old Xplane 10 with all the bells and whistles enabled.........Xplane doesn't need alot of tweaking in config files etc... to get good performance, instead my time is spent building sceneries. How you are getting those frame rates I don't know. Demo never goes past 30fps with ALL on minimum. Max out the settings like you claim and I get about 5fps.Your screens have a ways to go to catch up to FSX it would seem.
March 5, 201214 yr Author I have two GTX-580s in SLI, the latest builds of X-plane take advantage of SLI(Ben Supnik told me so), and as I said the latest nvidia drivers really boost the performance. So I am able to turn of the HDR rendering and run at the highest level of AA, with World Draw Distance at one from the highest(WDD is a big performance killer). I also downloaded some freeware clouds that reduce the performance hit from the cloud engine.I am a long time FSX user, just trying XPX because it seems to be the most viable way forwards for flight-sim right now. I have the freeware NL2000 scenery for fsx and I honestly think that this is comparable to that offering in terms of visual quality. Actually it's much better over the city of Amsterdam as all the buildings are rendered. Please remember I am flying quite low so the photoscenry ground textures are going to be blurry.I wonder in-fact if I could use fs2xplane to import all the NL2000 airports?Anyhoo, this was just an experiment, I don't really want to fly over Amsterdam. I am more interested to see what I can do with the state of Florida. Edited March 5, 201214 yr by PingPong
