direct X preview

Featured Replies

I turned on the direct x preview for the first time. During my landing into KLAX just before dark and on final I would get block of white scenery but still hav very good FPS. Is this a diect x issue or maybe something else??Thanks

Someone will answer that is a dx10 preview error, I tell you that it is related to the scenery. If the scenery has no all dx10 modeled parts for day and night, you will experience gray buildings/textures.Most people do not use dx10 for this reason, I learned to fly mostly in daytime. If more people use it probably developers will be forced to fix or re-make their scenery. But until 99% of users are using DX9 we will have always problems with old/unsupported sceneries.

FSX, as it is, is not fully DX10 compatibile software... hence the "DX10 preview" mode. That is one of the reasons scenery developers hesitate to do sceneries fully DX10 compatibile, if it is at all possible with some of the working methods.

Yes, but except for the developers wich make no full dx10 sceneries/aircrafts, the other are working great with the "preview".In my pocket, it is better to see a grey building than spend $$$ replacing my hardware only because a software house wont make its scenery compatible. They male their choice, I'll do the same. I prefer to have an old hardware still capable to have around 20fps in complex sceneries (compatible ones) in dx10 preview mode, than spending 300,400$ (if not more) for replacing graphic card and other hardware to increase the performances.I choose to replace my hardware only when it breaks or become too slow for the next simulator. In this moment I can use flight at full details with performances much better than in fsx, so, the hardware is good enaugh for gaming. I hate to spend money for a software, then for match the hardware for the software requirements if the software is damn bugged.I prefer flickering runways (that can be solved), grey buildings at night or during day, and +10fps to reach a target of around 20 in all moments. ;)

Interesting. I have always had an FPS drop in DX10 preview mode.

Me too. A big drop in FPS!And don't like the flickering of the runways too.Eric

Thanks, I should have paid more attention to the FPS.. I have not had FPS issues so I am going to turn off the preview again.. fly the KLAX approach and see what happens.
