Stuck in fly-by view: simple solution

Featured Replies

Today I started MS Flight and I was stuck in the fly-by view. I searched for a solution and found one, but that one tells you to delete ALL your files in %localappdata%MicrosoftFlight and %appdata%MicrosoftFlight. And have fun starting over all again from scratch, I suppose...!? However, after thinking about it for a few seconds and watching the content of the various folders, I decided to only delete one specific folder that I thought could cause the problem (it only takes some logic  ) and see if that would help. It did. Here's what you have to do:Go to UsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftFlightPlayers<Some weird code that's different for everyone>Career and then delete the folder called CurrentSituation.(Or: copy %localappdata%MicrosoftFlight into the Start menu, hit enter and then you only have to go to Players > Weird number > Career to get to and delete the folder called CurrentSituation)That's it. After doing that everything now is the same as it was, all missions I completed are still completed, settings are as I had them, nothing has changed, but now I am no longer be stuck in the fly-by view.Hopefully this works the same for everyone who encounters this problem, because simply deleting ALL your save files isn't a solution imho.

I have not as of yet found myself in that situation, but certainly know others have - great tip Jeroen, nice to know once can do that without losing everything gained to that point. Thanks for the info.

No reason at all why it shouldn't. It works pretty much the same way in FS9 and FSX, although that is only a single file, not an entire folder (which has a number of inter-related files for the "situation."

I have to thank you for the tutorial, because same thing just happened to me this night while doing a challenge.

Free mind, young attitude.

Does anybody who has had this problem recall previous events or actions prior to getting "Stuck in fly-by view"?I think more info could help the developers. Thanks

Good one. If I am not mistaken I had a crash during a hoop challenge right at the moment I passed a checkpoint. When I tried to load the last checkpoint, it did load it alright but within a second I would crash again. And so on. So there was no way I could finish the hoop challenge. After that I simplu quit the game.Maybe that crash at the checkpoint confuses MS Flight or makes the current situation that's saved automatically corrupt.

Cool! So this simple solution worked for you? I didn't have it confirmed yet, so I am curious. But since you are thanking me, I suppose I may conclude it DOES work.

I had this problem but fixed it by editing CurrentSituation.FLT inside that folder which you said to delete instead. One of the camera views had become set to locked and I just changed the 'true' to 'false' and it was working again.Section reproduced below:

Another great tip that I will keep in mind should I run across that issue - thanks.

First of all, thanks for the tip, Rabin! Even better then my solution! :wink:And Ramon, maybe you can post on the beta forum that I suspect the getting-locked-in-fly-by-view has something to do with crashing your plane and then leaving the game. When you crash your plane, you automatically switch to a FORCED fly-by view...! And apparently under some cirsumstances, that specific locked fly-by view that you get when you crash, is saved in the current situation file!Of course I tried to reproduce this, but couldn't get it done... Maybe it DOES have to do with crashing directly after a checkpoint in a mission. If I get the chance I might test that too (I now only tested what happened after crashing in free flight and a challenge but not near a checkpoint). But what Rabib posted made me think about the lock fly-bvy view at crashes and I am 99% certain this problem is related to this.

I got same problem but in different situation, I by mistake hit 'R' which (as I found out later) switching to 'Remote control camera' and stuck with it. I've also solved this by moving CurrentSituation folder to another place - nothing bad with this, game created it again. And yes, in bad version there was line Locked=True, while in good version - Locked=False.

Guys: We got news, and this bug will be fixed on an update.Apparently the workaround has been posted to the Microsoft Flight FAQ.
