Disable destination marker

Featured Replies

I flew the Hawaii Photo Book mission last night. Destination markers are essential for this one, as the passenger wants to go some odd places at times.Hook
I have just flown that mission. It was fun although I skipped whenever I could skip... However, I did like how they pointed out all the things worth looking at! But that doesn't mean I want all that info on screen all the time. I want a toggle to turn if off when I don't want to see it.

Have done that right after creating this thread, no reaction yet.Meanwhile it´s a total fun killer to me, I like the Jobs, the talking of the passengers or sounds of squeaking pig, but with that markers i dont want to fly further on jobs.

Well, I have the opposite problem :)Im not that good at using the Nav Aids and liked having the markers there to help me do a quick job. But the markers disappeared when i reached level 10. Is it a bug or is there any way of getting it back?

I'm at 15 and still have the Markers. I WISH I had your problem!

I found the solution (and possibly your fix) :In the file Flight.cfg (placed in users<user>AppdataRoamingMicrosoftFlight) there is a setting called [PointOfInterestSystem] - VisibleSetting=0. If you set the value to "1" (which I originally did) the destination markers magically disappears. Not sure what other effects this will have, but I still got my XP and leveled up after doing jobs.(Always remember backing up your files before changing anything).

Hey, that worked! The only problem is that it also gives you no indicator of where to taxi to upon landing. However, from my experience, all Jobs seem to start & stop at a consistent location on each airfield. Is this correct? If so, I'll look into marking the correct spot on Airfield Taxi Diagrams.I do wish Flight would at least send out a lineman to show us where to park. :P

Yes, that was my biggest problem too, but if one can live with lowering the realism a bit, the Skip to Waypoint after landing doesnt seem to affect the XP gained (like it says: Waypoints skipped during flight).Yeah, a lineman (or woman) would be great! :)

I guess you also lose the indicator where to take off from and where to land (which runway, I mean)? And how are you going to find your destination...? Won't jobs and missions be completely impossible without the markers...?

Yes, you also lose the "correct" runway marker. It's not a big deal for takeoff, as you can simply look at a windsock, but can be problematic for landing. As to finding my destination, I'll just use my instruments, my paper sectional map and the VOR stations. Oh, and I can look out the window when the weather is nice.

It is totally possibe to complete the jobs without the markers. You just need a map and you can navigate by following your track on the map. That is more challenging (and realistic) and that is why we want to do it that way.

(and realistic)
Doesn't the majority of real world pilots use GPS nowadays...?

I'm not aware of any commercially available GPS units that display a glowing Fly-To Point on the windscreen.

LOL That wasn't my point. I wondered how realistic navigating using a map is nowadays.BTW It could well be that a glowing fly-to-point is more realistic (comes closer to a GPS) then using a map...! I like to do VOR flights in MS Flight but only when doing Free flight. When I do a mission (specially that has you flying all over the island like the photo shoot missions) a paper map isn't going to be of much help.

I know, but I just couldn't pass up that opening!

Yeah, I expect that the art of radio navigation may be a dying art among those learning how to fly now, something taught under "Emergency procedures for GPS failure" but it's how I learned to navigate back in the day and I'm quite comfortable doing it that way. I'll use a GPS as my primary navaid, if I've got one, but I'm fine without it.As to the missions that have you flying all over the place, yeah, you do either need to be intimately familiar with the locale or have a helping hand with Fly-To Points. I know my way around Hawaii pretty well, but I'll be lost in Alaska.
