Maule pulling to the right on takeoff..................Help

Featured Replies

So i am sitting on the runway ready to go ,give her a little throttle ,everything ok give her about 30% and the plane starts to turn right very fast,Anyone else having this problem or know what i am doing wrong?ThanksFunnelpond

It is a known problem, already reported. Are you using the mouse as yoke?Try keeping the tail wheel on the ground longer, use the keyboard to steer and use differential braking.(Crosswind takeoff can be a nightmare)

Hmm, mine turns to the left.

I think this is because of the spinning propeller causing drag of some kind? I need to adjust my rudder all the time while taking off.. there is a option in the gameplay settings for reducing the effects of a spinning propeller. Try that if you have'nt already.

In a crosswind takeoff the nose will want to turn to point into the wind. In high crosswinds where the rudder isn't effective enough, use differential braking (the Z and C keys) to keep lined up with the runway. The moment the nose starts to turn, press and hold the proper brake key and hold it until you are in the air. You can also use the normal brake key for both brakes if you're using rudder control with little speed loss, as the rudder control will provide proper differential braking. This is with braking assists turned off; I don't know if the assist changes this or helps any.I was able to take off in the Stearman without problems in a 19 knot crosswind using this method.Hook

It drifts all over the place for me. but someone wiser than me told me it sharpens my skills when I can master a bad flying sim airplane in Fight..One time the wind was so great that the Maule went directly off the runway everytime with full rudder and alierion deflection when I tried to take off.

Use your differential brakes (Z and C keys) to keep on the runway. I was able to use the brake button on my joystick (both brakes) along with rudder to stay on the runway with no problem and not much loss of speed. Braking during takeoff is certainly counter-intuitive, but it works.Hook

Yea that issue was just too strong a wind. I can take off just fine with light to moderate wind. I do like the diff brakes though while taxiing. I changed my keys to [ and ] on my keyboard

I turned off the propeller effects for the Maule. I am using mouse control at the moment (must dig out the controllers). Not having any pedals to kick the rudder to counteract the effect I just end up in a field after a few moments.

My maule has often been uncontrollable on takeoff, turns to the left and straight off the runway when you throttle on. Turning off prop effects makes no difference, full opposite rudder doesn't help. Using a saitek yoke and pedals. Haven't seen extreme behaviour like this before in a sim, so i'm guessing it's a bug, though i don't have a lot of sim taildragger time (but have flown the a2a cub without anyproblems etc).

OzWhitey: That sounds like a crosswind problem. Did you try the solution I posted 3 posts above yours?Hook
