March 27, 201214 yr Non NG, but wanted to share some views from my flight. Started out with a quick flight down to KMIA. Arrived yesterday on a hot afternoon.Interesting wing tip on this G-2. Can you spot 737s in the back ground?Plenty of jets at the FBO.Nice paint on this G550Right in the middle of discussing emergency procedures on the way home today, there was a flash and a pop!I snapped a quick pic. After requesting FL350 we departed FL410 and raised the cabin for a differential of 7.0.We cleaned up with the QRH and continued our discussion. After hours of boredom, you sometimes get a surprise. March 27, 201214 yr This reminded me of a similar occurence... a window crack on the L2 window of a 737 NG. On a delivery flight no less. The brand-new 700, OM-NGK barely left Seattle, the window popped over Calgary.Next day the airplane went on to set a world record for a distance flown with a standart 737-700 without extra tanks. --Peter Fabian
March 27, 201214 yr We cleaned up with the QRH and continued our discussion. After hours of boredom, you sometimes get a surprise. That happened on one of our GIV's a couple of years ago. They were deadheading back to TEB from an owner trip to South Texas. They happened to be just a few miles from Dallas, so diverted there, to the GAC factory service center.24 hours (and $60,000) later, they left with a brand new left main windshield, and a new window heat controller, which was the culprit in the failure, having stuck in a continuous "on" condition and overheated the outer pane... unfortunately not an uncommon problem with the type of controllers installed on older GIV's... Too bad it wasn't the inner pane, I would have diverted to KSAV since it was 80 miles away. They would have flown down a rescue jet and I would be in Savannah tonight with drinks and good eats lol Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/

March 28, 201214 yr pricey deliveryI think Boeing replaced it for free as a courtesy, but I could be wrong. It was a while ago.re the new G550: too bad we will never see one for FS... :( --Peter Fabian

March 28, 201214 yr Author I think Boeing replaced it for free as a courtesy, but I could be wrong. It was a while ago. That's true, we had a few entertainment/COMM issues prior to, during and after our deliveries.re the new G550: too bad we will never see one for FS... :(It kills me lol, i would be so willing to help with the development. You guys aren't looking for new pilots, are you? Seems like a nice place to spend your days!We need more lol, very busy this year. We do fly to some to some nice places Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
March 28, 201214 yr Author That looks stunning, that cockpit :) And what an interesting incident! The 550 is basically a flying computer. Majority of the systems are circuit cards instead of boxes. Anytime there is a issue with the honeywell system, we just reload it like a windows operating system. I love these jets. Rick D http://g5flyer.tumblr.com/
