April 8, 200422 yr Hello,Have a question, I have FS2004 and a high end system. What would be the better purchase between FS Genesis or RealScene 2004?. April 8, 200422 yr I have FS Genesis's mesh. They are great. It really "transformed" the look of say, Aspen, Seattle, Los Angeles and such cities... Very nice, indeed. The support is also a big plus. I love it :D :DI don't know how it compares to RealScene 2004 since I don't have it.Bruno Francescoli :-waveStudent Pilot.KOPF PA28-161.
April 8, 200422 yr You can get most of the FSGen mesh free from the Avsim file library(/me dodges the stuff thrown by the library managers). It is a really great product :) Right now half of the US is in the library, and I imagine the other half will make it there eventually :)
April 8, 200422 yr uh, have you ever looked at what FSGenesis has on sale? There's 2 products and parts of a third that are released as freeware, totalling 10% and declining of the coverage area (which by now stretches all of north and south America, all of Europe and part of Asia).I've used Realscene FS in FS2000 and FS2002 and later replaced parts of it with FSGenesis mesh. FSG is a lot more accurate.
April 8, 200422 yr Uh, no I haven't and I really don't care to. It appears that 1/2 of the US is covered by what I see in the avsim file library(West Coast and Rockies). I could give a flying care about what FSG has for Europe, SA, and Asia as I don't fly there.
April 8, 200422 yr Gee Fred, seems someone is a bit irritable today. The main point here is FSGenesis offers high quality mesh terrain and absolutely the best service out there. And who knows, someday ya might get transferred to another part of the world and actually find it interesting to expand your horizons ;)-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what
April 8, 200422 yr I bought all the FS Genesis US mesh, along with the US landclass file, and I have been very happy with it. I have started buying other parts of the world lately. They have a very nice volume discount if you want to purchase a bunch of sections together. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
April 8, 200422 yr >Gee Fred, seems someone is a bit irritable today.Yea, I was just a bit irritable so I apologize for the snappyness of my post.
April 8, 200422 yr I have had both installed in FS2004. I don't see a whole lot of difference but probably prefer FSG.Be advised that both sometimes show the borders between scenery areas as bright, blue lines when viewed from a distance. It seems to me to be especially bad in mountainous areas when flying at higher altitudes with visibility set to a high value (100 miles). I think this can be eased somewhat in FSG by installing both the 76 meter and 38 meter files. But, it still shows up. Both suppliers acknowledge the presence of this artifact -- there is a discussion on the FSG forum about this. I'm not sure much can be done about it -- it may be a basic FS2004 problem. But, I am no scenery expert for sure!Aside from that, I like it! Dick Parker in Northeast Ohio USA Windows 10 64-bit | Nvidia GTX 1080 | ORBX | P3D 4.4.16.27077
April 9, 200422 yr Hello,I also have both and I can't see any noticeable difference between the two. Sincerely,Hans Groenewold
April 9, 200422 yr "Be advised that both sometimes show the borders between scenery areas as bright, blue lines when viewed from a distance."This problem exists in FS2002 as well. It seems to occur when there is a large difference between the resolution of the mesh under the aircraft and that of the default mesh. I've seen it recently when testing LOD9 mesh created from SRTM data, even in very flat regions. I can confirm Holger's results, reported here:http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/DC...ID21/14081.htmlWhen I added LOD6 mesh for the same area, the problem was eliminated (default mesh in the area was LOD5). I believe this solution is effective because of the much greater range of the lower LOD mesh (I discuss this effect in the same thread.)My testing was limited so I can't claim this will solve the problem in every case, but it is worth considering. April 11, 200422 yr One big problem when using addon mesh scenery is that airports, lakes and rivers/roads don't align with the mesh, and sometimes the elevations are very wrong. This can result in airports on top of mesas, or rivers that look like giant canyons. Is this also a problem with FSGenesis or does the developer take the time to correct these errors?I like the improvement from using addon mesh, but all the problems make the experience less pleasant - it's incredibly frustrating to carefully plan and fly a long flight only to find that you have to divert to another airport because the one you intended to land on is located inside a crater... -
April 12, 200422 yr Hi JimmiG,I have the 38DEM FSGenesis Mesh and Landclass for the Continental U.S. installed.I have installed about 8 or 9 addon sceneries in Washington State by L
April 12, 200422 yr Even with the default mesh you still have rivers running up and down hill and roads that would be undriveable. Accurate mesh makes the problem worse but overall looks much better IMHO. The default mesh looks kind of silly except in very flat areas, like the ocean LOL.David
