April 4, 201214 yr Hello eveyrone, I have just installed the new Microsoft Flight program via Steam, and unfortunately the game is crashing every time I attempt to load it. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to assist or point me in the correct direction as to how the issue can be resolved? When the game begins, I see the "Microsoft Flight" splash screen appears. A black window then appears, which then turns grey as the software crashes. The crash message that I receive is: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Flight.exe Application Version: 1.0.1.30023 Application Timestamp: 4f62aac6 Fault Module Name: COMCTL32.dll Fault Module Version: 6.10.7601.17514 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7b71c Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000ae00b OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 My computer is an Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 with 4 GB RAM, with a 1 GB nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti video card. Please let me know if any other hardware information is needed. I have read one other post on this topic and I have updated my video card drivers and disabled antivirus software to no avail. After reading in the crash message that comctl32.dll was involved, I ran the System File Checker (sfc /scannow command) on my computer, but the scan turned up "no integrity violations". Thanks very much for your time and help :)
April 4, 201214 yr Hi JrHorse Welcome to the AVSIM forums. I seem to recall a similar problem with commctl32.dll. Let me see if I can find somethning in the beta. In the meantime. You have all windows updates? You can try an reinstall Directx 9c Also check you .NET and see if you are up to date there too. Update: I found this on the beta site Devs, Here's a workaround that I discovered: 1) Run another GFWL enabled game 2) Sign out any profiles that are in use (Local profiles or GFWL profiles) 3) Close the the game 4) Run Flight You can download Tinker (its free) and go from there. Anyway I posted your problem over at the beta site, let's wait for a response. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
April 4, 201214 yr I have seen this same problem mentioned on the beta website. I will check now and report back asap. Edit: Ramon beat me to it but I will have a look anyway. Fred. Frederic Steiner.
April 4, 201214 yr Sorry Fred: JRHorse: Try to get the problem report if any: Type "View all Problem Reports" (w/o quotations) on Start Menu -> open applet and search for Flight Application. If you find it please post it here. and Include the bucket ID if present. What is your operationg System? Suggestion from beta site: I'm not at work so I can't easily check on it, but I would recommend the user change to windowed mode manually to see if they can get around the crash. In flight.cfg change Fullscreen=1 to 0. What OS do they have? Make a copy first. Flight.cfg is located at: C:\Users\<Your UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Flight Ramón. April 4, 201214 yr I have another problem. I cannot install the new upgrade. When i finish the installation and should launch Fligth.exe gives the error "unable to locate the point of the procedure SqmSetDWord64 in the dynamic link library sqmapi.dll" .... ....and returns to the previous version 1.0.1.30016. I gave up installing the new upgrade! April 4, 201214 yr @Roguespear: Try what Jcomm suggested, and also try this: This is very important: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Did they delete sqmapi.dll by any chance, or manually move their Flight files to a different directory after they installed it? THey can try manually updating by running this: %localappdata%\Microsft\Xlive\Updates\4d5308d2\Content\Setup.exe Hope this fixes your problem. @otter: Which one is your problem? @JrHorse: Can you post your operating System? Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

April 4, 201214 yr Otter: Sorry to hear those news. If you can, do a Registry Clean Try to do a complete Games for Windows Client uninstall-reinstall. Download the Tinker program from the marketplace. (its free) and see if you can access GFWL from there. (If you do disable automatic login) Is there an error event report on the event viewer? or on the "view all problem reports" (w/o quotations) applet? I'll post your comment over at the beta site, but I'm afraid they will need some more info. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

April 4, 201214 yr Sorry you had to do a complete install. How about: an error event report on the event viewer? or on the "view all problem reports" (w/o quotations) applet? Without any of them, Im afraid there is not much I can do. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
April 4, 201214 yr Jocmm, Kabronicus and all friends I thank you all, the various solutions, but unfortunately none work. ( tried it all! Just missed even formatting my HD and reinstal the Win Vista) I'm not sure what is happening but it may have something to do with the Otter5555 said about the Games for Windows Live... as from time to time fail to start......i´m using an "hp pavillion" too ............................ I find it strange because I was using Win Vista 32bit ... the error is "unable to locate the point of the procedure SqmSetDWord64 (which i think... is something of Win7 ...) in the dynamic link library sqmapi.dll." the Error Report files are in .txt on atachments The upgrade download is done correctly and the installation seems to run well too but, when the Flight restart, the error appears and the Flight returns to the previous version 1.0.1.30016. I will not waste more time to trying fix this upgrade issue ... I hope that Microsoft releases a new full final version, already containing the new upgrade 1.0.1.30023. At this time the order is to "wait" for better days.... I do not mind downloading again and retart Flight from the beginning....... I will continue with the version 1.0.1.30016 B) Cheers
April 4, 201214 yr Rogue: The first release had a problem with windows vista, I don't know if it was "fixed" on the update. I will pass your comments. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
