Texture Max Load keeps resetting

Featured Replies

I was noticing disappearing ground textures and I found again my texture max load is reset down to 1024. Setting it back to 4096 fixed the ground.

But why does FSX reset it? Is it when I change any setting it recreates the whole config?

I tried making fsx.cfg read only but FSX was not happy with that :)

That's correct.. It isn't a default setting so when you change settings and save it's writing the values over again.. It is indeed a pita..

The good news is there is a work around to keep or force the 4096 setting to stay even after going into the FSX menu.

If your running any FSDT sceneries or their GSX program, once inside FSX and a flight is launched, press the ALT key and access the Add-ons menu, click on Addon Manager and once it opens check the box that says Force HD textures and exit. Once completed it will force the 4096 texture setting no matter what you do.

If your not using any FSDT products you can still go to their site and download and install their addon manager for free and use it as a stand alone product to keep your 4096 texture setting in place.

Problem fixed. Neat way to do it that a lot of people dont know about.

Thanks for the tip Jim!

I only have Australian scenery and it doesn't seem to do that, but I'll go and look for this FSDT one.

Do you need to restart FSX after checking that box? Or is it instantly going to use 4096?

If you have FTX central from Orbx i think that has a TML setting where you can lock your texture value which is located within the Aero options.

Kind Regards

Simon.

As far as I know its instant becuase its live, no restart needed. They had to put that feature to force 4096 textures for their KLAX scenery but it works as a stand alone program also. Just dont hit the save to FSX button after you click the Force HD box othrwise it will write the other adjustments to your FSX.cfg. Just press exit after you click the box and it will force the big textures.

The ORBX veesion isnt running live while FSX is running and will reset your textures to 1024 if you make any menu changes while in the sim.

I might do a program for windows startup group that edits the config so it's fixed on every reboot, should be fairly easy

There are already plenty of ways to set it after a reboot or restart, the problem is keeping it set in FSX if you make any menu changes midflight, hence the only tool at this time that can do it is FSDT's Addon Manager.

I use Frosty Software, "Texture Max Loader". It starts everytime FSX starts and keeps my textures at 4096 always. I have the software but I can't seem to find a link for it anymore. It was free. Perhaps someone can get it to you. I can if you email me.

Thanks PM sent

Jim - that is a pain if it does reset it mid flight. I do tend to restart FSX if I ever need to change settings though because it only writes the config on exit. If FSX crashes it means lose config changes..

There is another easy solution to prevent an unwanted change of any selected parameter in the fsx.cfg. Go to:
