April 16, 200422 yr There is a another scammer amongst the flightsim community. Some weeks ago, someone contacted me on MSN stating that he had a CH Yoke and Pedals for sale and that he got my email address off of Avsim. We spoke for a little bit, and the price sounded reasonable. I paid right away and unfortunately this guy had nothing to deliver. Took my money and ran ($94 worth). I paid via PayPal and after submitting a claim, they found the seller at fault, but were unable to retrieve any funds from this jerk. There is a much longer, detailed version of this story, but I am saving you from having to read through it. Long story short, BEWARE. I was a little naive because I have never been taken for money over the internet until now. Here is his info so you can reference it:He goes by the name of Russell Trigg and lives in the UK. His email address is [email protected]. He has a bunch of Hotmail addresses that have some version of Russell Trigg in them. Just beware when purchasing something that isn't guaranteed and check people out before you give away any of your hard earned money. This guy is a real low life dirtball and someday I am sure he will get his.If you would like anymore detailed info, you can email me at [email protected]
April 16, 200422 yr yep, much more common than you may think. This was the single reason that I decided not to purchase the recently released 'Portland KPDX' scenery for FS9. A lot of vendors dont realize that some credit card companies will issue 'riders' listing restriction on some cards. Paypal is one of a few that are actually listed by name.I always take things like what happened to you as a lesson that happened to cost money, and a good, low priced lesson at that, since it will not happen to you again.Good Luck, SincerlyMike CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K
April 16, 200422 yr Author Yes Mike, I felt fortunate that it wasn't for more money. I have contacted his ISP and although chances are slim, I am going to ask them if they can try to retrieve my money. At the very least I would like to see them take appropriate action with the authorities, but who knows. I haven't heard from them yet, but will update when possible.Craig
April 16, 200422 yr As I remember there was one Russel on AVSIM who was posting around, but generally only saying bad things and posting malicious posts.Might be the same guy...And AVSIM deleted all of his posts back then, I think.
April 16, 200422 yr Hopefully AVSIM will make a note of his IP address if he posts again or any archived posts can be found. If he has a static IP address with NTL then it will be possible to trace him.
April 16, 200422 yr Russel Trigg... Claimed to be a JMC pilot. Posted a screenshot on MSN with all LAGO products installed. Don't know if he owns them or not. Send a mail to LAGO. Never got a reply from them that they require additional info or so... Hey, you can call him if you want to (or track him down via the phone company. PM or mail me if you want his number.
April 16, 200422 yr "Russell Trigg" is in deep sh#t, no doubt about it!http://www.ntlhome.com/terms/"11. FraudNobody may use the Services, either directly or indirectly to impersonate any person, entity or a minor or to commit or attempt to commit any fraud.""We will cooperate with merchants and credit card companies in the detection and prevention of fraud."http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.php/23664/banner.jpg Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
April 16, 200422 yr This individual tried to gain employement with us during the EGKK project. As Alex said he claimed to be a 757 pilot with JMC Air at EGKK. When we called to verify you can guess the rest. We have been documenting (I hope we still have them saved) various conversations with him for quite some time now. Please be carefull when dealing with people you do not know or have not heard of through other reputable sources. IF you are in doubt about something, especially when it involves money, don't hesitate to ask a question in a public forum somewhere. The FS community is really small when it comes to these issues. Someone or a known developer usually should at least be able to tell you if there is something not quite right. This is a good example of somone who has nothing better to do than screw everything up for the rest of us. April 16, 200422 yr ok, Russell Trigg, a pure amateur, who speaks lies, but doesn't cover his own back and think in advance - and that's where he slips up, as he's about to discover.Russell (I know you'll be reading this), I blocked you again over the last month because I know EXACTLY who you are. This guy told me personally he was a JMC pilot, but what airline company would employ a person who can't even SPELL! so never believed him from the start.... all because he wanted to get scenery off us for free!At last he's slipped up something big, and he's about to get what he deserves. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67960.jpghttp://www.onlinesimulationsolutions.com/Athlon 64 3000, 19dba Zalman CPU fan, MSI K8T-NEO, 1GB PC3200 DDR400, HIS Excalibur 9800 Pro 128mb, 60GB HD.Trainee Airline Pilot (Completing PPL, ATPL this year).
April 16, 200422 yr Author Thanks for your replies guys. I am not at all surprised that he has been very busy deceiving people, it is obviously something he likes to do. Honestly, I like to trust people in the flightsim community and everything has gone well with that until this happened. So unfortunately I wont be able to trust anyone else in a transaction unless it is some sort of guaranteed sale.I have submitted all of the emails and logs of MSN conversations to ntl world. I received a notice today that they received the info so hopefully something will come of it, because he obviously deserves to be handled appropriately.Looking back on the logs I saw definite signs that he wasnt for real, but of course hind sight is 20/20. By the time I really had figured it out the first time, it was too late, but I did know about a day after I paid that nothing would ever be coming.I dont understand if he thought that no one would ever pursue action against him, but little did he know that I have plenty of time and a lot of drive to spread the word and help take him down! I will pursue action with ntl world as long as it takes via email or telephone so they understand and maybe decide to submit his info to the proper authorities.Craig
April 16, 200422 yr Craig:You might want to copy your local FBI office since he has committed interstate fraud. Doubtful if they will do much do to the amount involved. However, if this guy is in the habit of doing this then collectively they may pursue it with interpol.
April 16, 200422 yr A couple of places you might want to go,The Internet Fraud Complaint Center http://www.ifccfbi.gov/index.aspNational Fraud Information Centerhttp://www.fraud.org/http://www.cybercrime.gov/reporting.htmNational Association of Attorneys Generalhttp://www.naag.org/naag/contact-int_crime.phpand as seen as he's from the UK, you could also try the National Anti-Fraud network http://www.nafn.gov.uk/index.cfm
April 16, 200422 yr Author Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to see what ntl world has to say about it, and what they plan on doing. If I am not satisfied with their actions, then I will pursue other avenues. At this point I am not as concerned about my money as I am about him not doing it again.Craig
April 17, 200422 yr Greetings from the UAE! This is a good thread and a reminder to all of us that there is a very small minority in the community that will not hesitate to rip you off, given the opportunity. The fact that he contacted you as a result of an AVSIM message forum disturbs me no end. However, we can't prevent that from happening. What we can do is ferret these types of folks out, collectively, and drive them away from this community. If you see messages that are suspect on the forums, or are contacted via the forum PM or EMAIL with content that you think is a bit "twitchy" then by all means contact AVSIM Staff at [email protected] and let us know. We do not like our system being used for things like this, and we will work with community members to shut this kind of stuff down whenever it occurs.
