April 15, 201214 yr VATSIM if on-line, no ATC if off-line (just listen sometimes to know what runways are in use). by no ATC while off-line means that you fly without atc, so you tune the ATIS freq, and that's it? you must be very busy when the active runway is not what you had planned
April 15, 201214 yr by no ATC while off-line means that you fly without atc More or less, yes. That is my conscious choice in FS. so you tune the ATIS freq, and that's it? Usually: ATIS on departure/arrival, plus Ground on departure and Tower on arrival to make sure on the runways in use. you must be very busy when the active runway is not what you had planned That doesn't happen really often. And even if it does, I just contunue landing as planned. In very rare cases, e.g. when there is an aircraft on my runway, I practise go-arounds - you never have enough training, do you?
April 15, 201214 yr In very rare cases, e.g. when there is an aircraft on my runway, I practise go-arounds - you never have enough training, do you? Rafal, do you have a registered version of FSUIPC? Why not shoot those AI aircraft that are on the runway (or in front of you on approach) using "Traffic Zapper" in FSUIPC. Works greats, which is why I never use AI separator or AI smooth. RJ
April 15, 201214 yr do you have a registered version of FSUIPC? Sure, I do. Why not shoot those AI aircraft Well, simply I never bothered as, like I said, it seldom happens and if it does, it forces me to practise go-arounds I would be too lazy to train otherwise. But thanks for reminding me of this option. I may try it one day.

April 17, 201214 yr Like Rafal I also use no ATC ,either stock or addon. I much prefer it like this . Just use atis, and ASKY to judge ARR runway ,occasionally I may get ARR rwy wrong ,but its pretty simple to redo flight plan in FSNAV to the correct this.If i am feeling VERY develish I will ignore the correct runway and land on my original choice anyway (naughty pilot) select a higher air brake setting to allow for tailwind perhaps . I sometimes will tune to centres just for the shear bloomin hell of it(but don't engage with controllers ) ,but thats it as far as ATC is concerned .Also as a bonus no ATC also eliminates any possible sound stutter probs and A HUGE bonus no dammed go-arounds. What I can REALLY concentrate on are my landings (which I must admit rather shame shamefacedly after all these years are STILL not always as good as I would like) Anyways cheers Andy
April 17, 201214 yr Radar Contact for all my IFR flights, and switch to default for traffic info after cancelling in the air if my destination is uncontrolled. For VFR I don't bother to use ATC in the strict sense, I just listen in to get weather and runway. I'll ask for permission to land if I'm on my best behaviour but won't go around. I love that =@ sound that FSUIPC makes! D
