FS9 builds new database every time

Featured Replies

I have a little annoying problem. Every time I start FS new scenery indexes are created and a new database are being built. This happens every time I start FS9 even if no changes in the scenery or anything else has been made. What could that be ?

check if you have a scenery.cfg newscenery.cfg and oldscenery.cfg... figure out which one is accurate and name it scenery.cfg, copy the others to desktop for safe keeping just in case and reload...

That is what it always was in my case

Have no newscenery.cfg or oldscenery.cfg. Apart from scenery.cfg I have four Scenery_CFG_before_<nameaddon> corresponding to four addons I have. Moving these so only scenery.cfg remained didn't solve the issue.

Hey jfri,

Open your scenery.cfg file (save a backup first) check to make sure that each scenery layer is numbered correctly, and no two layers are the same. Also within each layer if there is 'layer=xx' xx being a number, make sure that is the same as the scenery layer.

I had similar issues after allowing a scenery installer to automatically modify the scenery.cfg file. Let me know if that helps.

This happened to me a while back. Do you have UAC turned on in windows7? Try right clicking the start icon and tick the box for "always run inadministrator mode"

How do you tell if a scenery layer is correctly numbered? I have seen that the area number and layer number are the same up to 38 then it differs as can seen from my scenery.cfg extract below. Will I have to edit the file manually to correct this?

[Area.038]

Title=Addon Scenery

Local=Addon Scenery

Layer=38

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

Remote=

[Area.039]

Title=Ultimate Terrain - Europe 1

Local=SCENERY\UTEUR1

Layer=40

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

Remote=

NO UAC is turned off

There is no correlation between the layer=nn and the [Area.nn].

They do not have to match.

The layer=nn is tied to the priority of the Scenery Library and hand editing those numbers leads to more problems than it solves.

If there is a problem with those numbers FS will tell you when you try to start the sim.

If you have a NewScenery.cfg then you should start the sim, then shut it down without changing anything.The NewScenery.cfg should then be gone. That file is created whenever you make a change to the Scenery Library and the sim will use it the next time you start the sim. This is why you get the warning that "changes will not take effect till the next sim start".

Have you tried disabling all your addons to see if one of them is causing the issue?

This might also be a permissions issue if you are using Vista or Win7 and have the sim installed to the default Program Files location.

Now I have tried it. I was lucky the first three items named carriers was causing this issue. Don't know were they come from. But must be some of the freeware sceneries I have installed.
