April 20, 200422 yr I would like to replace the original FS9 water textures with something better, but there seem to be many choices in the library...Could some of you recommend what you feel to be the best replacement water textures? Thanks...

April 20, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi,If you use new water reflection or new water bumpmapping it`s ok. Be aware:If you install 3rd party new water ocean color and you fly over 20 000 feet, you will have bluegreen blocky water issue. If you don`t fly over 20 000 feet, it`s ok for you. (Default fs2004 ocean water don't have this issue, Water ocean there is near 60 files.)Be aware #2Most of the new water reflection do not have darker color, if yes, you will have this issue blue/green water againThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis

April 20, 200422 yr This is probably the best recommendation and it tells you exactly what to do - step by step. Really phenomenal water effects and with some real oceanographers behind all this work ...http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchMichael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
April 20, 200422 yr Howdy Vilk,Nice problems. :-lolWho's textures? Enquiring minds would like to know.
April 20, 200422 yr Vilk, are you going to tell us what water set is giving you all those problems. :-)billg
April 20, 200422 yr Hi Vilk,I don't wish to detract from those wonderful images, but I think it's only fair to point out that such impressive imagery can be captured even with MS's default textures. All you need is a nimble finger to hit the keyboard at just the right moment in the cycle ;-).My recommendations (the link was kindly posted above) installs a combo of textures which look pretty good throughout the cycling in most situations. Also, they provide a feeling of depth to the water, AND then there are those simulated cloud reflections...need I say more?!I won't say they are perfect. There are some issues. I suppose the main observation/criticism is with the colour. Compare them with the recent alternatives included with Flight Ontario's recent release - these are darker and greener and certainly add a greater sense of realism to their scenery. The latter can be disabled or enabled through the scenery library. I believe this only applies to their supplied scenery area and does not affect the rest of the world. It does illustrate what is possible, however.I have tried all manner of combinations but have not yet found any to better my recommended combo....says he modestly... lol, lol. I suppose, like most things flight sim related, it's all down to individual preference and what you are prepared to tolerate. Perhaps I should mention one other point in favour of using my recommended combo: Frame rates and the relative lack of impact the combo has on the sim's performance when Terrain Detail is set to 'Land Only' and Water Effects is set to 'High'. No small consideration, I'm quite sure you will agree?Cheers,Mike
April 21, 200422 yr sho thangdone it beforecan do it again;)http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=178953&page=(you may find more suggestions in that thread)
April 21, 200422 yr thx Vilk. I'll give both yours and Mike's a go. I fly mostly out of CYVR, PHNL, KLAX, KSAN, KLGA, and CYHZ. They're all on the ocean... :-)billg
April 21, 200422 yr Hi Chris, I would like to go back to the default fs2004 water colors. I have the blocky issue as I fly at FL300 and above. Can you please tell me exactly what files I need to reinstall from my FS2004 installation disks in order to get the default water colors back. Thanks for your help.C H Menten
April 21, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi, You don't need to re-install fs2004. The water bmp is on the Cd #4 SceneryWorldTextureThe files are from 001b2wa1.bmp to 060b2wa1.bmp (there is 60 water bmp), copy them in your fs2004SceneryWorldTexture-Be sure your extended texture is enabled also in fs2004 display.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
