April 27, 201214 yr Just a question i have read the fcom 11.43.33 and it doesnt go in detail on how go about selecting the fmc after the go around proceedure. For example was doing a flight from ymml to yscb and i had yssy as my alternate airport. I had inserted yssy as my alternate airport in the fmc, than i selected the direct to option as well. On approach to the yscb i initiated a go around thinking the fmc would automatically set my alternate airport so Lnav would take me there but i was wrong. So after many minutes of trying different option to change the route to yssy i manage to change the route .So was wondering what is the quickest and correct way after intiating the go around? April 27, 201214 yr You dont want the FMC to send you to alternate automatically. That is bad... especially considering most GAs are just traffic related eg. someone missed a turn and left you no place. What do you do after G/A: go into RTE page, enter your destination or alternate as desired, coordinate with ATC. Input RTE and/or ARR as desired. Try again. --Peter Fabian
April 27, 201214 yr And to add to Fabo's comment, in flight the RTE page defaults to Pg 2. You need to go to Pg 1 to change the destination. Matt Cee
April 27, 201214 yr Good point. Interesting to note what "comes without saying" for one, is a noteworthy thing for another and yet another one might be struggling with it for days... --Peter Fabian
April 28, 201214 yr Author Thx guys thats what i thought i had to do but i went the long way of doing it, But why do you need to insert the alternate airport in for in the first place?, Or is it only used for calculating your fuel etc. I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
April 28, 201214 yr It would of course be necessary for fuel planning, and of course a prudent thing to do since a destination airport could be closed for all kinds of reasons beyond merely weather, such as terrorist threats, lighting or other equipment failures, blocked or contaminated runways, emergency operations, etc, etc. In some countries, it is actually a legal requirement for an IFR plan to have an alternate stated as part of the plan. April 28, 201214 yr Author Thx i gathered that but the main reason i was asking i would have thought there would have been an easier way of selecting the alternate after the go around, like selecting it in the fmc some where , instead of going to the route page and inserting it again as the previous posters have suggested I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
April 28, 201214 yr Peter, It's for planning purposes. RW some pilots don't enter all the alternate info until they realize there is a need to go there. Also, RW just because you filed a certain airport as your alternate doesn't mean you'll actually end up going to that field if you have to divert. Entering a field in as the alternate allows you to use the FMC's computations to generate fairly accurate information about how much fuel you really have to "play with." April 29, 201214 yr So would that mean its basically there for crew awareness? (I.e. calculated fuel/distance at/to the airfield or airfields inserted into the FMC). Ash Frew.
April 29, 201214 yr So would that mean its basically there for crew awareness? What is there for crew awareness? If you mean that setting of alternate airports that will let you see all the remaining fuels either direct or via missed, then yes, it is for crew awareness. --Peter Fabian
