April 28, 200422 yr Hi.what is the best display resolution recommendation for FS9.ie 1024x768x32, or 1280x960x32 etc, any thoughts guy's.some people have stated that running at 1024x768x32 makes the lighting on the runways etc look better, while others have said that FS runns better in 1280x960x32 because of something to do with shapes and re-draws etc,any feedback would be most welcome, along with you're reasons why you run in that particular resolution.thanks to allSteve.
April 28, 200422 yr I run both, depending on the needs of the moment. I also have a monitor configuration file that allows 1280x1024 if needed. It's just the way the fancy takes me, as with a 21" monitor anti-aliasing must be run at a higher level in lower resolutions and that can impact the frame rates. I also use 1152x864x32 and 2x FSAA as a compromise setting. All you have to do is try it for yourself and see what meets your needs best. Allcott
April 28, 200422 yr The main thing Steve is to keep an aspect ratio of 4:3 which both 1024x768 and 1280x960 are.Having said that my 17 inch TFT monitor's native digital res is 1280x1024 which is not 4:3 ratio so circles and squares are not round or square :-), but TBH you soon get used to slight distortion. As Allcott says a lot is personal preference and, more importantly, what your system can cope with. It is no use running at 1280x960 if you only get 5 FPS.Quite a while ago there was a lengthy discussion about what res to use and someone put forward the theory that full multiples of 640x480 gave better FPS than partial multiples. So 1280x960 should give better performance than 1024x768 - I haven't bothered to check this out.
April 28, 200422 yr I always use 1280x960x32. For whatever reason, that resolution gives me 10-20% better overall framerates than 1024x768x32. Could be a system-specific thing though. A little experimentation should get an answer that works best for you.DougNorthwood 2.2a at 2.72Ghz (Intel HSF)Abit TH7II-R512MB Samsung 40ns PC800Radeon 9800 Pro (128MB)Cat. 4.2's DX9b WinXP Pro5 WD HDD's (20GB, 60GB, 120GB, 120GB, 120GB)Plextor 708ASony DDU-1621Inwin case / Enermax 431W PSU Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. April 28, 200422 yr I get very good results at 1600 x 1200 on a 21" monitor. Frames rates around 25-30 under most conditions with FS2004 settings near max. Dick Parker in Northeast Ohio USA Windows 10 64-bit | Nvidia GTX 1080 | ORBX | P3D 4.4.16.27077
April 28, 200422 yr Hi,thank you to all of you for taking the time to reply to my queriesCheers Guy'sSteve.
April 28, 200422 yr With your system I would run at 16 X 12 X 32.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
April 28, 200422 yr I also run 1600x1200x32 in a 21" monitor as you will see in my specs below, I also run a second 14" monitor at 1280x768x32. I leave off the AA and AF (anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering) and this gives good frame rates. Turning either the AA or AF on really lowers the frame rates. I found that I prefer the higher resolution to using lower resolutions with AA and AF on.Zane Dr Zane Gard Sr Staff Reviewer AVSIM Private Pilot ASEL since 1986 IFR 2010 AOPA 00915027 American Mensa 100314888
April 28, 200422 yr Author 1600x1200x32 with 6xFSAA and 16xAF here. All FS settings maxed except mip-maps (they are at 4 because of shimmering).I get Excellent frames but I wouldn't suggest it unless you have a system comparable to mine.1280x960x32 seems to work for a lot of people.:) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
