April 16, 201511 yr Great find King, will try it latter today But just before I get lost... Could you provide a more precise ID of the files & folders involved ? Thx King Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
April 16, 201511 yr The directory you want to be looking at is ....Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/aircraft/Mig-21bis/Liveries/Mig-21_CP. There are three folders in there named custom, default, and english. The contents of the english directory need to be placed in the custom folder, so I guess back up the descriptions.lua in the custom folder if you need to replace it (or use JSGME to do this as a swapable mod), copy the textures over to that folder, and then check "Custom Cockpit Livery" in the Special menu for the Mig-21. This stock Eng. Language conversion leaves some of the labels in their original Klingon. The ones available as Mods, made by users, like the Enhanced English Cockpit Mod, appear to be more exstensive in their re-labelling. EDIT: I'm finding that JSGME for managing Mods is really useful.
April 16, 201511 yr Thx a lot King! Russian/ Cyrillic has never been my strongest point :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
April 16, 201511 yr This has got to be one of the coolest planes in all of flight simulation. The FSX/X-plane people who don't have DCS have no idea what they are missing. I'm just doing some of the basic tutorials right now, and am impressed at every step.
April 16, 201511 yr DCS is well ahead indeed. And EDGE will make it even better :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
April 16, 201511 yr Another useful piece of information that I found while I was going through the tedious process of customizing cockpit views: The CameraViewAngleLimits for the Mig-21 is not found in the Server.lua, as for the A-10, KA-50, or P-51D, but in the file DCS World/Mods/aircraft/Mig-21bis/Entry/03_views.lua. It defaults to 105. With Huey, and some of the other ones, it is found in the DCS/World/Mods/aircraft/Views.lua. You probably already knew that though. This parameter is of interest to me because I like to match the CameraViewAngleLimits to the same FOV I have for the default [13] Snapview, because it always zooms out at the beginning from whatever is set in the Snapviews.lua, to the CameraViewAngleLimits, and I don't like that.
April 16, 201511 yr Hmmm, not even knew about that one. I use TIR, but I'll check those settings! Thx! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
April 16, 201511 yr Just uncheck, in: Optoins-Special-Mig21bis-Custom cockpit livery & you'll have the default english cockpit. But personally I prefer the eng.cockpit mod Kind regardsR.G
April 17, 201511 yr Oops! King and Jcomm were just feel like when we're shot down and don't even guess where it came from :-) Thx Robert! Even worse - I actually had it unchecked, but assumed the stickies were in Russian because there are indeed still a few Russian words here & there in the cockpit ... April 17, 201511 yr I'll have to go look at that again. Simply enabling Custom Cockpit Livery alone didn't seem to work for me, and I had to copy those textures into the Custom directory. Anyway though, jcomm, definitely get that Enhanced English Cockpit mod instead. It changes everything to English. I recently had to learn about the JSGME mod enabler to best manage these things. To the subject of being able to fight with the plane, my survivability in the Fast Missions is now up to about 5 minutes. I've pretty much completed the task of mapping my weapons management commands to the Warthog throttle, but I'm still all thumbs and clumsy. I know how to manage the missiles and the radar now, but I'm just not very good at it! I'm actually not a bad dogfighter, when it comes to flying the plane itself, but at the present time it's a stroke of luck if I've selected the correct pylon, the right missile mode, the correct sight mode, and the safety latch is off, all at the same time, so that I can actually take the shot! Are the radar homing missiles on this plane really so short range? With the target locked up, by the time my launch bars come into the launch zone on the radar, I'm practically in visual range, certainly well under 10 miles.
April 17, 201511 yr Fast Missions is now up to about 5 minutes. Hehe - Wait until you go multiplayer against the Flaming Cliffs guys. Luckily my best friend flies in a real world Navy Adversary Squadron in F5s (our Mig 21 counterpart) and gave me lots of good pointers. Just fly low and get in behind their radar before committing. May 16, 201610 yr Commercial Member Mig-21bis updates on develop: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2779905&postcount=1 We've now finished re-implementing the basic night lighting system in the cockpit. For 2.5- we hope to include some more lighting features, such as individual warning lights influencing objects and afterburner glow visible in the cockpit. We are also working on backporting various other visual features developed for future modules to the MiG-21bis. These will be migrated as time allows! This basic system should be available in one of the next patches coming up. Click for fullsize! June 24, 20169 yr Commercial Member improvements on the DCS: W 1.5.4 Beta http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2820454&postcount=1 Dear All, With 1.5.4, we will be launching two major improvements to the MiG-21. We have more improvements lined up for the MiG-21, including bugfixes and visual improvements. These will be detailed at a later time. Flight Model In order to ensure accurate and realistic flight performance, we've spent a lot of time and focus on tweaking the MiG-21s' flight model in all flight regimes. With the unique position of our lead FM programmer being an active duty MiG-21bis pilot; we were able to take more real-time telemetry and video data from several recent training flights. Such data is invaluable to us, and serves to further help with verifying subjective pilot/programmer feeling. More overt changes will likely be most easily recognized in the critical and supercritical flight regimes, where the aircraft now performs more to what you'd expect (and also more reminiscent of one of our earlier revisions). There are, however, significant changes across all performance and flight parameters. We look forward to you flying the MiG-21 and providing feedback where applicable! Cockpit Night Lighting While we have several more, significant, visual improvements pending implementation (and backporting) to the MiG-21bis; we will begin by re-implementing the night flood lighting. These lights will have a performance impact pending upgrades to the core engine. The lights will not be available in 1.5.4 Open BETA. They will be made available in 1.5.4 Release. Full changelog: MiG-21 Changelog 1.5.4 Added red cockpit lighting* Added right side white panel spotlight* Corrected several Z-Fighting issues in cockpit artwork* Added missing glow on several switches and levers* New major Flight Model update & revision Adjusted critical & supercritical flight envelope Adjusted acceleration FM now more closely matches performance data Corrected several SAU stabilization issues Tweaked SAU for FM changes Fixed intermittent cockpit shake (2.0.X & 1.5.4 bug) Completely overhauled RP-22 Sapphire radar logic and raycasting Corrected several issues with radar indication and targeting Corrected erroneously wide IR missile FoV *Will be available in 1.5.4 Release Thanks for your support!
