The Mastercaution light should still illuminate even when there isn't a warning present during the recall test.

So what's the consensus regarding this matter then, does it need updating in a future SP?

Well it definitely needs looking at...

although I would not be terribly surprised if it was one of the myriad small differences between individual 737s...

I'm pretty sure I've seen it in a 737-800 video too I just can't find the video

I skimmed through the Aero-Presentation SAS video, 737-800: F/Os master caution illuminates when he presses recall, also illuminates when the captain presses his recall switch. Maybe this is another company option?

I can confirm the same thing. I have no active failures/warnings/cautions and the yellow Master Caution light does NOT illuminate while holding down the recall switch.
