9800gtx+ to 570gtx worth it or not

Hi all,

 

I currently have an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.6ghz with 8gb of ram and a nvida 9800gtx with 512mb of ram all running on W7 64bit. I get around 25fps with Ngx at areosoft mega airport when running med to high settings. And traffic at about 25%. I am using a 19in monitor.

 

Would I see much of an improvement with a 570 gtx, I was looking at a 570

As it in my budget.

It's not definitive since some just seem better suited despite a lower score. I have the GTX 560 Ti 2 gb and I can't do everything I want. If I'm flying the PMDG J41 in an Orbx Blue area, I have to tone down their scenery somewhat...maybe half, in order to get 25 FPS. The J41 seems to cut my FPS in half. You can see my setup below.

Jumping from a 9800GTX to a 570GTX in my opinion would be like Night and Day.

 

I couldn't tell you what the actual FPS benefit would be, but you would be able to push out much higher Graphics Quality settings such as AA with less of a performance impact.

 

What res is your monitor running at?

I am currently run at 1280 x 1024.

I moved from a 9800GT about two months ago, but chose the GTX560 Ti 2GB as being much more cost-effective over a GTX570. If you haven't yet compared alternative prices/specs to the 570, do so - I think you'll find pleasing results!

There will be places where it won't help regarding framerates. In a lot of places it will. It will also make texture loading much faster and thus your flight much smoother.

I would certainly go for it.

Yes Mark,

 

It would be a termendous jump in performance. Check out the link in my signature. I went from a 9800 GTX+ to a 275 GTX to a 470 GTX to a 480 GTX to a 580 GTX. The increases in the last 4 cards are documented. The difference between the 9800 GTX+ and the 275 GTX were significant also, although I did not document the improvements in FSX.

 

Bottom line is that it will be well worth doing performance wise.

Mark, that's a nice card. If it's in your budget then I would snap that one up. The jump in price to a 580 GTX or 670 GTX on the site you linked is a fair amount so that card you linked to would be a nice compromise from the more expensive cards.

 

I see that you're running a fairly low resolution on that monitor at 1280x1024. Can I make a recommendation?

 

You may want to consider (once it's in your budget) to upgrade to a larger monitor running at a higher resolution such as 1920x1080. Based on your system specs, with the new card you would be more than capable of running this and in my opinion it would make a world of difference to you in FSX.
