June 16, 201213 yr Recently downloaded and installed three scenery modules from Megascenery. The modules are of the Tampa Bay/Sarasota area. The scenery is terrible, flat, lacking in any detail and shows what looks to be snow at the Sarasota/Bradenton airport. More than that, after repeated requests for tech support and/or return of money, Megascenery has ignored my inquiries. They are unwilling to help me get their software to function and are unwilling to refund my money. I wonder if anyone else has had problems with Megascenery. Computer specs: i5 2500K processor, Windows 7 64 bit, 8gb RAM, 2gb video card.
June 16, 201213 yr I have two areas in California. The quality is poor/marginal...not nearly close to their MegaScenery Socal and other offerings. As I understand it, they're using satellite imagery, some of which is very dated. The resolution is low, the colors are weird. They have very little dynamic scenery (buildings and such) but that's pretty standard for photorealistic scenery and has more to do with FSX limitations than anything. I've also heard their support was not good...perhaps even bad. They've really fallen out of the sim world and I think there are other photoreal software that is taking their place...folks that care about what they do. I don't see Megascenery active in any forums or anywhere. They seem oblivious. I guess I should have known something was up when they didn't provide any samples. BlueSkyScenery (which is free but doesn't have as much coverage yet) seems better. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. June 17, 201213 yr Tileproxy is free if you can afford to use up your bandwidth. The tiles are generally good with global coverage using Yahoo Maps service, you just get some poor tiles in remote areas like in the South Pacific Islands. I've even flown around Afganistan with Tileproxy and the CS C130 and found the tiles very good in that region. Lots of the world is well represented, and its a free service. June 17, 201213 yr Tileproxy is free if you can afford to use up your bandwidth. That's pretty impressive. Found some vids on youtube. They need a dynamic scenery proxy too :). Does it always use fresh files from the internet or does it cache what you fly over and reuse them? Also, can you layer other scenery on top of it? June 17, 201213 yr Does it always use fresh files from the internet or does it cache what you fly over and reuse them? Also, can you layer other scenery on top of it? It will cache your files so if you fly the same route twice, the second time will load from the cache. You can also download tiles from Yahoo Maps if you wish to build a hoard. You can layer objects on top of it and scenery on top of it as well. When I was using it I had the premium internet connection for higher speeds and more bandwidth from my local provider, I also bought a SATA 500gb drive just for Tileproxy and allowed the cache to fill that drive over time. In my POV Tileproxy is great, only exception is when you see things like clouds in the tiles like in this image: http://maps.yahoo.co...=10&mvt=s&trf=0 This is mostly common in the Pacific Islands as there are always clouds here. Other then that it is awesome. Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 23, 201213 yr Hi! Many thanks for the heads up about Megascenery Earth. I was thinking of getting some for the Napa valley and stuff in California as I like to fly there but maybe I'll give it a miss. I have their photoreal scenery for that area in Fs9 though and love it. Although the ground texture resolution is limited to Fs9's 4.7m/pixel it still looks really good and even has some autogen too. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any alternatives besides Tileproxy for many areas. Many thanks, Pierre
June 23, 201213 yr I have purchased three Megascenery products, sorry four 1) Southern California is superb, especially if combined with FSDT KLAX (see my screenie) 2) Also Las Vegas is a worthy product, again I have it combined with FSDT KLAS, although I originally had terrain mesh issues which I overcame with removing the mesh file from Megascenery 3) Off the back of these two titles, I purchased some areas of Florida... uurggh, terrible! So I guess there are titles to get. Oh BTW, I also got my hands on Hawaii, which again is excellent. Althought I must admit the size of some of the autogen leaves a lot to be desired. So all in all I think the sceneries are pretty hopeless, but amongst them there are some real gems, if you use them wisely.
