After Start and No Spoilers

Featured Replies

Love the aircraft! But I am having 2 issues:

1. After start the engines continue to smoke and the "start" button stays on. I cannot get the engines to stop smoking

2. I engage the spoiler roger switch but they will not deploy after landing

Any ideas?

My idea is that you're not starting the aircraft properly, to be perfectly honest. The tutorial explains it pretty well, and if that isn't enough, there are two stickies at the top of this subforum that go into slightly greater detail.

Yea, I am obviously not doing something right, but have through the tutorial a few times.

I believe the smoke you are seeing are the engines melting. Try defeathering before start.

Easiest way to see if you're on the start locks is have a look outside. If the blades are pointed forward/aft you're not on them, so it will not start. FSX does not assume the start locks were engaged when the plane was last shutdown even though the flight starts with them appearing to be on the locks, so they always drift back to feathered. I guess you can get around that by saving the flight in the locked state. Dunno, not tried it.

My guess is that the engine didn't finish starting...just spinning on the starter. You'll get cut off and the engine will stabilize at about 46-47% torque or thereabouts. Make sure your fuel pumps are on...well, just follow the stickies.

Spoilers: not sure what you're using to engage reverse thrust. If you don't have it configured on a yoke/joystick just pull the engine to idle and then press and hold F2 down until you're below 70 KIAS and then press F1. The light above the spoilers should come on.

Ok I will try to defeather again. I tried it once but it made so differnce. Still no luck with the spoilers. I arm them and make sure to hit f1 but they will not deploy.

No...press and hold F2 to deploy. Press F1 to put the engine back to idle. After you defeather look at both props and if you're looking at them from the front they should look fat.
