At the default zoom, the scenery is zoomed way out, making everything outside look tiny and distant.

1.0 gives correct normal view, but no peripheral vision with a single monitor.

I found it very difficult with the default zoom to judge the the flare and when the wheels were going to touchdown. With the setup I have now ( .9) , I shot a a bunch of landings last night, and I could tell exactly when the wheels would contact the runway.

The more peripheral vision you have the better, for judging when to flare.

It's always going to be a trade-off with a single monitor... Do we want peripheral vision or do we want an undistorted view? At least editing the config files lets us find what works best for each of us.

LOL Well, I guess it also depends on what you are used to. ;) I've been using a very low default zoom in FSX, because I like the added peripheral vision, also because of the (far) greater sense of speeds it gives. And all textures look a lot sharper that way too! A zoom of 1.0 makes me feel claustrofobic... it's as if I am looking through binoculars all the time.

This is nature's way of telling you it's time to upgrade your rig to a three-monitor set-up!

I'm used to how Hawaii really looks. Just%20Kidding.gif

At default .06, or even at .08, the mountains are much less impressive-looking than they are in the real world.

If only I had room... but I love my big roll-top desk too much. Unfortunately, I can only fit a single 24" monitor inside.

Back to the kernel of this thread, Arwen's site is really a must, and I look forward to have Arwen back with us when Alaska get's released!!!!
